Max is so flexible and his campsite is SO convenient when traveling this stretch of I-70! It’s a lovely area to stop. The views are beautiful. Yes, you’re near a highway, but what a beautiful place to be beside a highway! The stars are amazing at night. The moonshine during the day is pretty good too — try Max’s Colorado-grown spirits and his hand-crafted cocktails during business hours and your road-weariness will melt away. Even if you’re not up for a drink, spend some time at the cozy bar enjoying Max’s candor and knowledge of the area, and take a bottle home for yourself — or friends.

Weekend Trip to Colorado River Camp Has It All!

An incredibly beautiful site, private and comfortable. There are four sites and we stayed at the Rooster, there was plenty of room, incredible river access, a fire ring, and a small wooden stand. We had a large party with a bunch of dogs and we felt super comfortable. Even though there are other sites, it feels very private and all you can hear is the sound of rushing water. The nature is so beautiful, we saw a couple bald eagles as well! I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a place to unwind and spend a couple days in nature.

Weekend Trip to Colorado River Camp Has It All!

I loved our camping trip at this site over a long weekend. The sites are very spacious and right along the river which was very pretty. Also had a fun time saying hi to all the animals! We had a great stay and would definitely come back again!

Beautiful and easy. The description is accurate, and Stacy was very kind and accommodating. In addition to introducing herself, she raced off to find a corkscrew so my partner and I could appreciate the bottle of wine that we brought. My primary recommendation is to give yourself time to appreciate the property in addition to spending the night.

Weekend Trip to Riverwalk Yurt, luxury on river

Had a great memorial day weekend in the Tipi! The site is MASSIVE, it could easily fit 2 families camping together. Tipi was comfy with a night time breeze and two foam mattress pads. Firewood was provided which was so nice - the campfire on the river was the highlight of my trip. Enjoyed the easy access to shower/toilet and to charge devices. George and his partner are LOVELY hosts. 5 stars.

Weekend Trip to Old Moon Acres Tipi Haven

I adored flaming at Old moon tipis! Stacy was an amazing sweet and accommodating host. Stacy checked in a few times to make sure everything was going smoothly. The area is amazing and beautiful. Felt alone enough to be with my thoughts however also had the opportunity to meet other campers. I will definitely be going back. Already planning another trip with my mom. Thank you Stacy!! 💕☀️ my heart needed the sun and the kind soul I met.

Weekend Trip to Old Moon Acres Tipi Haven

We stayed in the yurt over Memorial Day weekend and absolutely loved it! The yurt was clean upon arrival and had more than enough space for 2 people and the open land was great for letting our dogs have some room to roam. The communal kitchen was clean and well stocked with essentials cooking. The porta-potties were clean and there were plenty of solar showers available if we felt like freshening up. Stacy was an amazing host, communicated great via the app, and checked in regularly during our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. We loved our time spent here and will definitely be coming back!

James Hinds the homesteader and original owner of the ranch created the ware and hinds ditch which supplies our abundant Valley water. He was a prominent attorney and got our water rights given to us forever from President Harrison. It includes water that extends to the middle of the Colorado River and the one mile of our shoreline. The trip up can be challenging (only off-road, winch / locker equipped vehicles dare try the 759 Holy Cross City jeep road, others will need to hike in at least 2.5 miles), but the views and cabins are well worth the trek. Snow free season tends to be June 15 an October 30 annually, and outside of this guests should be prepared for up to 11 miles of over-snow travel with no cars allowed (a bit less depending on snow coverage in the shoulder seasons from May 21 - early June and late October - November 20)

Sherman. This prime location gives quick access to all the best outdoor recreation of the High Rockies, while also being removed enough to provide solitude and quality time with friends and family. In summer and fall (May through November), the property has vehicle access by Forest Service Road 103- known by many other names depending on mapping service including County Road 9A, Turquoise Chief Rd, and St. Kevin Rd. This segment of road is part of the famous Leadville 100 MTB race, lying at roughly Mile 8/Mile 95. In winter months (December through April), the camp is accessible by snowmobile, ski or snowshoe on groomed multi-use winter trails open to the public. The trek in is approximately 4.4 miles from the Leadville Junction Parking Lot, with an elevation gain of roughly 800 feet. The terrain around the yurt provides backcountry skiing through trees with occasional glades. Our backcountry lodging is designed to have minimal impact on the landscape, intentionally rustic while also providing amenities like a wood stove, solar lighting, plush beds and a roomy indoor space to gather. Firewood and propane for the camp stove are provided. The restroom is an outhouse a few yards from the yurt stocked with toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Sawatch Base Camp operates under Lake County CUPs 21-10 and 23-33.

The heated bathhouse features a toilet and foot pump sink. Purified drinking water is available from May - September. You must bring your own water from October - April. The kitchen features an oven/range and basic cooking and serving supplies. There is no refrigerator, so please bring your own cooler and ice. Campfires are allowed, but it is your responsibility to determine if there is a fire ban in effect. Firewood may be available or dead wood can be collected on the property. There is a picnic table nestled in the scrub oaks. We only rent one side and the entire property is private to you! We do have neighbors, but the property is pretty well tucked away. You may see the occasional vehicle or hiker on the road or hear someone doing some yard work, but it is generally very quiet and secluded at the yurt. Our neighbors have chosen to live in Marble for its privacy and tranquillity. Please show them respect by keeping the noise down and leaving them be. If you have questions or need help, call us from the yurt landline. Winter camping experience/equipment and a high-clearance 4x4 vehicle with severe snow-rated tires and chains may be required to access the yurt Oct-April. During large snow events, driving to the yurt may be impossible in any vehicle. Skiing to the yurt may be an option Dec - Feb. Gear sleds are available at the yurt for your use.

He loves leftover campfire hot dogs. Please be aware that this is old mining land and there is mining debris and also glass on the property. We work hard to pick it up and repurpose into art projects but it seems to be a never ending battle. If that is of concern this might not be the property for you. However feel free to bring a metal detector and your geology books and you can find a lot of fun treasures on the land if that is your thing!

Overview

Aspen is Colorado’s year-round mountain playground. Sure, it’s best known as a star-studded ski town—but when the snow melts, the fun’s just getting started. Pitch your tent by an alpine lake, and hike and bike on hundreds of miles of trails. With its family activities, extreme sports, and wild outdoors, Aspen welcomes everyone.

As you drive up Independence Pass, you’ll find several White River National Forest campsites. Just a few miles from downtown, sleep among the Aspen at Difficult Campground. Tiny Weller has 11 sites with picnic tables and vault toilets, while Lost Man Campground is quiet. These high-elevation areas are open only in the summer.

For fee-free camping, head up Highway 82 to Lincoln Creek Road. Here, you’ll find 22 dispersed campsites scattered through the trees. Want to fish or paddle the Roaring Fork River? It’s a short walk from the sites at the Upper Grottos Campground.

When it comes to scenery, it’s hard to beat the breathtaking Maroon Bells. Three campgrounds—Silver Bar, Silver Bell, and Silver Queen—offer 23 total sites. The local road closes in the winter, but autumn, with its brilliant Golden aspens, is downright dreamy. Cars are banned on summer days, but the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority runs a shuttle.

If you’re in an RV, your best best is to stay in the valley. The closest RV parks to Aspen are near Carbondale.
