Weekend Trip to Three Springs Campground RV Park

We needed a place to stay last minute while attending a music festival in Lexington, but with no hotels available, we decided to camp instead. Stumbling upon Three Springs Campground in Sadieville (which happens to be my daughter's name-it was fate, we had to stay!) It turned out to be an unexpected highlight of our trip. The campground offers primitive tent camping for $50 a night, but for just $10 more, they have rustic cabins that were the perfect blend of comfort and simplicity. The cabin had heat, air conditioning, electricity, a microwave, a Keurig coffee maker, and plates, making it incredibly convenient. There was outside seating and a fire pit. While there was no bathroom inside the cabin, the bathhouse was just 75-100 feet away, and there was Wi-Fi and no TV. After the festival, we built a fire and spent most of the night simply enjoying each other’s company—me, my husband, and our daughter, Sadie. It was the perfect way to wind down, surrounded by nature and the peaceful atmosphere of the campground. Whether you’re looking for secluded, rustic tent camping or a budget-friendly cabin stay, Three Springs Campground is a great option near Lexington. Highly recommend for anyone attending an event nearby or just wanting a tranquil getaway!

Weekend Trip to Three Springs Campground RV Park

A cute, super clean campground. And we loved the shower heads!! Every corner of the cabin, bathrooms and showers were clean of cobwebs! I am glad to see they are investing in fixing some of the campsites. It was very easy to find, just off the highway but far enough back to be super quiet. We will stop again when visiting family in Lexington.

Nice storage container house. Had everything you would need. Shower was fantastic. We hiked to the creek and explored. We fished in the small pond for some small fish. The games around the storage containers were fun for kids. Great place to visit.

2 nights at Treehouses, Off the Grid!

Staying in a tree house has always been a dream of mine, and this one was fabulous. The house was great as was the area surrounding: fire pit, hammock and swing. We spent many hours on the trails and especially enjoyed Jacob's Ladder trail. There was peace of mind knowing the whole property was fenced in. We felt very safe and our dog loved walking the trails off leash with us. Bad weather rolled in our last night, and Shelly was very communicative, making sure we were aware of the watches and warnings, and giving options for where to head if we felt we were in danger.

Weekend Trip to Handyland

We had such a relaxing stay at Handyland. The cabin was so cozy and the stars were absolutely stunning at night. We walked the trails and they are beautiful. Don’t miss them. Josh made sure we had everything we needed. Our dog was able to get some exercise and explore. We all left happy campers and would definitely stay again.

We loved our experience here! Josh was very communicative and helpful any time I had questions. The cabin was clean and well maintained. We stayed on a very cold night and enjoyed using the wood burning stove for heat. The kitchen was well stocked and we had everything we needed.

Weekend Trip to River Refuge Retreat

My fiancé and I really enjoyed our stay! We were hit by an unexpected snowstorm and were snowed in. They were very nice and accommodating and ensured we had everything we needed for the sake of our safety to stay off the nasty roads! They even put together a very special request my fiancé had to surprise me upon arrival🥰 We will most definitely be back in the warmer months and highly recommend this wonderful cabin!!

Our end-of-the road, ridgetop property means privacy. Our isolated campsites are surrounded by woods full of turkey, deer, owls, and woodpeckers. Onsite there are wide, easy strolling paths, a growing number of single-track hiking trails, open fields, and forest. And if not booked, a historic log home to explore and do some porch sitting. A great place for solo campers, friends, and families, whether newbies or experienced. Drive-in sites make unloading/loading easy peasey. Standard amenities include privacy - we only book two sites at any time, which are far apart from each other and surrounded by woods. Also, an exceptional outhouse, tables, fire rings, lanterns, Welcome kit (paper, fatwood, lighter, candle). And onsite firewood purchased during booking or while onsite. Site 1 - Open Sky accommodates solo or the group, tents to small campers. It comes with extra amenities: hammock, trampoline, (badminton & cornhole by request). It's also closest to the cabin, strolling trails, firewood shed, outhouse. Site 2 - Gobbler's Knob is a more cozy space - a small rise surrounded by forest. It was where we felt at peace. When I turned 35 I knew something was missing in my life. I returned to doing fun adventures again and one led to another and we found tree climbing. We recently moved from the next county over and are enjoying making this place ours and improvements for guests. Property is 15 minutes south of Cincinnati, close to the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport (CVG), close to restaurants and attractions such as Kings Island (approximately 1 hour), Creation Museum (approximately 25 minutes) and The Ark (approximately 25 minutes). Also nearby are several state parks and local favorites such as Big Bone State park, Rabbit Hash,and Riverbend. We have 2 dogs who walk with us on leash and recently added chickens and goats! Elmer and Clyde do like to wander and explore. They are very friendly. Learn more about this land: Gravel driveway leads up to both spots. We do try to keep it maintained, but frequently rain causes ruts faster than we can fill. It should not impede drivability, but use caution and feel free to ask if you have any concerns. #1 improvement planned is paving driveway. You may also experience some vehicle noise from roadway. Typically, as we are on a back road, it is fairly quiet but some drivers may be louder than others and some evenings see more traffic. Level gravel area for RV parking, second plateau available for multiple tent sites. Campfires in designated area. Deer, wild turkeys, opossums and raccoons are plentiful and often wander through. Less common are foxes and bald eagles that make their home at Doe Run Lake nearby. Main home on property but only close enough for assistance, not interference. Homesteading in progress with many improvements being added. Property is close to Creation Museum and the Ark. 10 minutes from restaurants and expressway but feels like a retreat. Wi-fi, trash, private area for camp toilet, fire ring, water, camp stove (available in extras). Optional tent and chair rentals.
