All You Need is a 111 acre paradise that is home to some VERY unique and endangered habitat. Our northern boundary is a tract of DeSoto National Forest, where we have practically exclusive access to another 90 acres of longleaf pine savannah and more bottomland creeks. The sandhills are a "desert in the rain," home to prickly pear cactus and yuccas, abundant lichens (deer "moss"), the endangered black pine snake, and our mascot, the also endangered Gopher Tortoise. We're a nature education and retreat center where we share permaculture practices, homesteading/sustainable living skills, conservation practices, and approaches to connecting more deeply to the land. Check out our sister non-profit, the Burrow Nature Center. You will have access to our many walking paths and our swimming pond, as well as a 15 minute walk to part of DeSoto National Forest, which butts up to our property line. We would love to have you as our guest on the land, and are especially eager to meet travelers who deeply love nature and want to live in better relationship to it! Lush rolling terrain and wide slow creeks are trademarks of the De Soto National Forest. So are kickin’ it in a canoe with a brew while you float down the river, we suggest exploring both! The swamplands here offer ample opportunity for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing on the Black Creek National Scenic River. The primitive camping along the way is hot in the summer, but prime for misty morning photography and inky orange sunsets...worth it! Off-road the Rattlesnake Bay Trail or hike the Tuxachanie trail with your crew for a day of laughs deep in the pines. You can pretty much camp forever here too, so pack up a week or two worth of gear, and really dig deep into what Desoto has to offer.

Cypress Creek Landing Recreation Area

Cypress Creek Landing Recreation Area

We loved camping at Cyprus Creek! We stayed over for one night at one of the campsites. There were only two other sites being used that night, and we chose a campsite a little ways from both of them. All total, there were eleven of us out there. We set up two hammocks, two tents, and two cots. It was beautiful and peaceful. The trash containers were empty and had bags in them. The bathrooms were nothing to write home about, but they were functional. There were two toilets and two showers. The creek has a little beach and a rope swing that looked very fun. The water was pretty cold when we went, so no swinging for us, although my kids did play in the water. Overall, this was an amazing experience and we can't wait to go back!
