Camp Saguaro is nestled in a unique and rural area on the west side of Tucson, Arizona. With the Saguaro National Park Visitor Center, Tucson Mountain Park, and Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum all within four miles, there is plenty of opportunity to explore the outdoors. Tucson Mountain Park and Saguaro National Park boast hundreds of miles of hiking trails, and non-motorized mountain bikes are permitted on the trails in Tucson Mountain Park. Let us be your base camp for desert exploration whether it's hiking, riding, birdwatching, and learning. Come to Camp Saguaro and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the desert. Our friendly hosts can help you plan a great day, some of them even have their Certified Tourism Amabssador credentials. Please note: We are tobacco-free, medicinal herbs are legal and ok as long as children are not around. What to expect: We are in a rural neighborhood where most parcels are 1-3 acres, we have seven acres. It's quiet around here but along with the natural sounds of the desert like yipping coyotes, and woodpeckers pecking, you may hear a horse, dog, or chicken. While we are on the outskirts of Tucson, we are not completely remote. We have carved our sites out of the natural layout of the desert. There are many kinds of cactus in our area in addition to the magnificent Saguaro, and uneven areas when walking. We keep it as natural as possible. We have a small "Mercantile" on property. This is our office, but we also have items you may have forgotten, and souvenirs made by local artists. Also available is firewood, and ice is for sale for your convenience. We have a small Laundry Shack (two washers, two dryers) 2.00 wash/2.00 dry. You'll need cash for these things, we do not take any other form of payment at this time. Camp Saguaro is tobacco-free. Local attractions: Saguaro National Park- 2.3 miles or 2.6 miles to an entrance, 3.7 miles to the visitor center Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum-3.9 miles Tucson Mountain Park-2.5 miles Old Tucson Studios (over 400 movies have been filmed here)-7.1 miles King's Canyon Trailhead-3.8 miles Necessities: Gasoline-Speedway 5.7 miles Propane-Wagon Wheel 5.8 miles, West Ajo Feeds 12 miles Hardware-Picture Rocks Hardware 5.6 miles Groceries-Fry's Cortaro Road 14 miles

This spacious campsite is tucked away into a quiet corner of this stunning piece of Sonoran Desert. Located off the beaten path but close enough for a short walk to the common area. You are welcome to have a small, attended fire, so be sure to pack those marshmallows. The common area has modern amenities such as flushing toilets and heated water on-demand showers, making it easy to relax and enjoy the best of desert life. The Mercantile on property carries various camping supplies, local art and doubles as our office. Right next to the Mercantile is our Laundry Shack, with on where you can do your laundry and deposit your cash in the honor box. Whether you’re looking for a place to stay for a night or two, or planning a longer stay, this campsite offers a unique and unforgettable experience.

Magical Mushroom

Magical Mushroom is a pull-through site with a really cool structure on it. Just look at the pictures! The mushroom is very small, it fits a queen air mattress inside, or up top (up top is slanted a bit for drainage). You could also pitch your tent or park your van outside and use the "mushroom" as a place to play, pray, relax, or to get out of the elements. It's up to you. This is a cobb structure that has been fortified on the outside to protect it from erosion. The inside is still as originally built (25 years ago), and is basically mud (even the floor), so please be gentle with it. If you have children, please make sure they aren't locking each other out and playing rough with it. Most everything is decorative and is not made to stand up to rough housing. This site is just about 20 steps from flushing toilets and showers. It has a small outdoor oven. Perfect for roasting marshmallows or hot dogs. The site is approximately 45x25, so there is plenty of room for your tents, car, van, truck camper or really tiny teardrop, anything larger would be difficult to maneuver. The adjacent parking area is about 25'x10', so, if you are camping in a van, you can't get into the site, but you can back into the parking spot and your sliding door would open up to the path to Magical Mushroom. Magical Mushroom is right next door to "Adobe", so, if you are traveling with friends or family you may want to book both.

Javelina Hollow is in a great location. You will be camping among some magnificent saguaros which are unique to this area. This is one of our more secluded spots, but it is still just steps away from the common area with showers and flushing toilets. This spot is suitable for van campers, tiny teardrops, tents, overlanders, car camping. Dimensions are approximately 28x18 for the parking area, this does not include your sitting area.

Curious Quail

Curious Quail is a large site. There is plenty of sun if you have solar, but there is also some shade in the sitting area. It's off on its own but, is still convenient to the common area with the bathrooms and picnic area. In this site we allow up to two camping vehicles (two vans would fit just fine). If you are traveling with a friend or family you are able to add-on the second vehicle for this site. This site is approximately 50'x17' at it's narrowest and 27' wide at it's widest. This does not include the site's lovely sitting area.

Silly Lizard

Silly Lizard is set apart from the common area and our other sites. It is a true desert experience with its little solitary Saguaro, standing dead tree, "fluffy" cholla (don't touch them), and several barrel cacti (barrels of fun!). The site is approximately 28'x15', this is the parking area and does not include sitting or tent area. This is one of our better sites for backing in a trailer.

Yippy Coyote

Yippy Coyote is a small site with the entrance guarded by a beautiful Saguaro. It is a nice spot for van camping, overlanders, tents and the like. We do NOT allow class C, trailers, busses or motorhomes. This site has great sun exposure for those with solar panels. Your vehicle will provide you with afternoon shade. This site is about 25 steps from the common area with flushing toilets and showers are located.

Adobe

Adobe is a unique desert experience. You will need to bring your camping gear; you'll need everything but the tent to camp inside this straw bale structure. If you need more space, you are also allowed to pitch a tent in your site, there is a 16'x11' area behind Adobe where a tent would fit nicely. It is a perfect spot to relax and enjoy nature, and the perfect shelter for those who do not feel like pitching a tent. Adobe offers a rustic and cozy atmosphere, while still camping. The thick walls provide excellent insulation to keep you warm in the winter, but you'll still want to bring plenty of warm blankets for the coldest nights. The sturdy full size wood bed is ready for your air mattress or sleeping mat and sleeping bags, or whatever bedding you bring along. The solar lights inside will help augment your battery or solar operated lantern, but should not be counted on as a sole light source. The built-in table outside makes it easy to prepare meals and snacks, with plenty of room for your cooler and propane camp stove/grill. Whether you're looking for a secluded getaway or just a place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, Adobe is the perfect spot for you. From the front door of Adobe, it is approximately 30 steps to the bathroom area. Adobe's tent area is just about 15 steps away. Adobe is situated right next to the Magical Mushroom site, so, if you are travelling with friends or family and need two sites, these would go well together. Adobe is a straw bale/mud structure, so, pets are not allowed inside, however, if you are using the tent site at Adobe as well, pets are allowed in your tent and outside of Adobe.

Surprisingly Fun, Artsy, Clean

I was a last minute camper looking for a spot near the Saguaro National Park and was welcomed to Michele's campground. Straight forward directions led me to the grounds and my site at Javelina Hollow. I had plenty of room to pitch my tent by the big saguaros in the sunset and found the grounds subtly lit with colored solar lamps. I had a nice peaceful evening under the stars. Coyotes howled and owls hooted. In the lovely morning I was woken by a dawn chorus of quail and other birds, made my coffee and walked the premises discovering all of the super cool, creative art features that helped separate campsites and are placed about. The two flush toilets and two showers with running warm water, wow, what a treat! I loved the little Mercantile and super special, funky (but well designed) adobe and other structures on site. What an absolute treat!

Michele’s set up is absolutely perfect. And this comes from myself who owns a small Four Wheel Camper and basically never stay in campgrounds and just love to Boondock and get away from everybody. But Michele’s property is just a great way relax and to see Saguaro National Park and the Desert Museum, which are very close to her property. Everybody we met at the camp, and of course that includes Michele, were friendly and happy because it’s just a great scene. The showers are really nice. The bathrooms are always clean and the laundry facilities are really nice to have. I just can’t say enough about how nice it is to stay at Camp Saguaro. Highly recommend it.

It’s a beautifully designed campground with artistic touches throughout. Each space has its own name and character, as well as privacy. The bathroom with on demand hot water showers is one of the best I’ve seen. Kim and Michelle have poured their heart and soul into Camp Saguaro.

I booked this day last minute. Just needing one overnight, but I wish I had the time to stay longer! This place is very special. Everything is meticulous, from the laundry area to the bathrooms, well marked paths and really all the grounds. You can see, the owners put their heart and soul into this with all the little extra touches everywhere.

Hi! We loved the campground - it was a perfect spot for doing some e-biking in Saguaro National Park and the Tucson loop. Loved the natural beauty and the bathrooms were so well kept and clean! Kim was very friendly and we scored some beautiful art souvenirs at the mercantile. Highly recommend.

This was definitely one of our favorite Hipcamp stays! Not only is the location incredibly close to Saguaro NP (west side), but the little details and amenities made this a very enjoyable family camping experience. We didn't have our camp chairs on this trip, so the common area was perfect for breakfast and dinner. The bathrooms and showers were very clean and comfortable. The charging station was a nice extra luxury, too. And our kids found a new favorite game with the tetherball area. If we're ever back in the area, we will definitely stay again!

Camp Saguaro was an awesome experience. We came in our camper van and stayed at the Magical Mushroom site. It was a hot day and it was cool and relaxing inside the adobe mushroom. At bedtime, we took our bedding up the ladder and slept on top of the mushroom. We could see stars through the skylight and it was very cool. Camp Saguaro has a little store where we bought drinks, firewood, and s’mores supplies. The showers and bathrooms there were clean and convenient.

Our stay at the Magic Mushroom was, well... magical. The facilities are always clean and the free hot shower was delightful after days of no showers. The Mercantile is so cute and has handmade artisanal gifts. There's a BBQ and a place to hang out and play lawn games and even tetherball! There's close access to the 10 and Saguaro National Park. Truly a gem! Camp Seguaro is a delight. I'll definitely be back

Such a beautiful park with large peaceful sites. Everyone was very helpful. It was so close to Sonora national park The attention to detail was amazing from beautiful cactus to site decor to hot showers! Would highly recommend this park!!

This is a very nice camp, with excellent, clean bathroom and shower facilities. It is obvious the hosts take pride in their property and good care of the grounds. The site we had (Curious Quail) was spacious and private enough for our rented camper van. We had a wonderful time here.

The Saguaro Camp is wonderful. Host Michelle very responsive and communicative, so helpful. Easy to find, sweet spot near the Saguaro NP, set amidst a variety of native plants...lots of cacti! They must feed/water the birds cuz birdsong abounded. Even entertained by the occasional wild turkey gobble. They paid so much attention to detail as they developed this camp. lots of cool lighting, funky touches, homemade/handmade screens and object d'art sprinkled throughout. Functional and funky showers, toilets and dish wash-up station are practically luxurious. On demand hot water heater so seemingly endless hot showers. The sweet vibe Michelle and her team created seems to set to the tone for visiting campers, everyone was pretty chill. Do yourself a favor, camp here. You won't regret it.

Camp Saguaro is awesome! It's definitely the cutest campground I think I've been in, and the place is incredibly well taken care of. If you are staying in the area to see the saguaros and get the "desert" experience, I couldn't think of a better location to do it. Super happy with our stay, even with the weather against us during it. And Michelle is the friendliest host!

Wow! If I had a campground of my own, this is what I would want it to be. I thought our site (Magical Mushroom) was adorable, roomy, and convenient to the bathrooms. The whole campground was filled with beautiful cacti, some of which we were pleasantly surprised to see light up with small twinkle lights at night. The site had 2 adirondack chairs and a large wooden table. The bathrooms were just steps away and had amazing, hot showers! The group game area was adjacent to the site and had cornhole and ladderball set up and ready to play. (which we did, of course!) We arrived our first night after the mercantile closed, but our host responded immediately to my message and came and opened up for us so we could get ice. We didn't sleep in the Magical Mushroom, but I loved it's presence. It is super cute. Overall, it was a great experience and I would love to stay again.

When you first arrive at Camp Saguaro, you see a property that is tended to and lovingly maintained by the owner operators Kim and Michelle. We stayed at The Adobe for a couple nights and had an incredibly relaxing and enjoyable stay. The attention to detail was evident throughout our room and the property. You can tell they are always trying to think of special little details to make the guests feel relaxed and welcomed. We will be back again! Thanks

Funky charm in the desert

Camp Saguaro is full of funky, arty charm. I loved the Adobe House and marveled at all of it's unique qualities, from the pieces of ceramic in the window sill to the decorative mason jars near the ceiling full of dried flowers. Shower and very nice flush toilets are nearby. I loved building a fire and watching the amazingly clear night sky while hearing coyotes in the distance. Note another site (an incredibly cool mushroom structure) is very close, so don't expect privacy when hanging out outside.

We received a warm welcome and felt right at home at our Lovey Dovey site! Camp Saguaro is just minutes from many trailheads as well as the Red Hill Visitors Center & Desert Museum. We enjoyed 3 beautiful sunsets @ Lovey Dovey. We highly recommend joining Kim & Michelle at Camp Saguaro!
