Rustic Off-Grid Camping Overlooking Horsetooth
Welcome to your next great adventure! Nestled high above Horsetooth, this off-grid camping spot is your ticket to serenity, sweeping views, and a dash of wilderness charm. With Lory State Park and Horsetooth Falls practically in your backyard, it's the ideal hideaway for nature lovers looking to unplug and unwind.
Jaw-Dropping Views: Soak in panoramic vistas of Horsetooth Reservoir by day, marvel at the city lights by night, and stargaze to your heart's content. It’s like nature’s own IMAX.
Handy Perks: Enjoy the rustic luxuries of a small deck with hammock hooks, a picnic table for your gourmet camp meals, and a dome frame ready for your shade-creating tarps. There's also small “outhouses” with a door for a bit of privacy for your portable potty. Remember, waste must leave with you, no dumping here! You can safely dispose of waste at the designated dump site near the fire station.
Fire Friendly (Sometimes): Fires are great, but let’s keep them safe! No fires on windy days or when there's a fire ban in Larimer County. Always extinguish it completely before leaving it unattended. Bring your own wood and let’s keep those marshmallows toasty without setting the world on fire.
Adventure Awaits:
Just minutes away, you’ll find Lory State Park and Horsetooth Falls, offering trails, lakes, and natural wonders galore. Whether you’re hiking, biking, or just taking in the scenery, adventure is calling!
Wildlife Encounters:
This isn’t a zoo, folks—it's the wild! Bears, deer, and other critters roam the area, so secure your food and keep an eye out. It’s their home too.
Important Details:
Access with a Twist: Getting here is half the fun! The steep road with its sharp corners isn’t big-RV friendly. Tent camping is the way to go unless you enjoy adrenaline-filled parking maneuvers.
Pack In, Pack Out: It’s all about keeping nature pristine. Bring everything in, take everything out, and leave no trace.
Safety Advisory:
Watch Your Step: With steep drop-offs nearby, sensible footwear and a healthy respect for gravity are essential.
Weather and Wildlife: Prepare for everything Mother Nature might throw at you—wind, rain, bushes, curious bears.
Don’t forget the water, sunscreen, proper footwear, and layered clothing.Beautiful view of city lights and stars at night. Features a deck with pillars to hang a hammock, picnic table, large wood smoker grill, firepit and two private areas for shelter from the elements, use to cook during storms or restrooms. Bring your own wood for fires and cooking.
A large dome frame is on site. You can set up your tent inside of it, or anywhere against the west wall to protect you from the wind. Bring a tarp, bungies, ropes, to cover the dome for added shade. (Remove any hammocks ortarps tied to the dome during high winds or they might get ruined). There's a portable potty on-site inside the makeshift privacy enclosures, in case you forget yours.
If you do use our camp potties, we ask that you please empty them only at the designated waste dump sites, which are available next to the Firestation at the entrance to Shoreline Drive for a $15 fee. On your checkout please empty potties if used, wipe off, and return them back to the campsite. Please only use the grey water source at the designated dump site for rinsing the potty. (To avoid environmental contamination). No potty dumping anywhere at the campsite is allowed. There is no water source at camp but you could always get your water jugs refilled nearby at the Soderburg Trailhead, Horsetooth Reservoir Inlet Bay campground (for a parking/entrance fee). The closest free spot is by fire-station on Shoreline Dr., just take a right coming out of Irene Way to find it. Car or tent camping only, because of the steep inclined roads, switchbacks, and sharp turns. Probably can't maneuver a large RV or pull behind camper, due to limited space. Cell phones work here! Due to neighbors in the area, please refrain from camping here if you plan to have loud parties, especially after 7 pm during quiet time. Site has a large flat area for parking and tent set up but immediate surrounding areas are feral with steep inclines and drop-offs so please be prepared to keep an eye on children, and animals to avoid injury.
*Update March 2025* (Neighbors in view to the west are building a house, so you may experience construction noises and lack of privacy!) Will remove this message once construction is finished.
