Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
This five acre property is in the county, yet on the edge of town. Close, as in 5 minutes, to the town center, the Hogbacks (Skyline Drive) , and the Arkansas River. The Royal Gorge Bridge is about a 20 minute drive out of town.
Feeling adventurous? Not afraid of heights or drop-offs and have four wheel drive? Then try the back route (single track, dirt road) to Cripple Creek - Shelf Road.
Go adventure for the day, knowing your gear and equipment are safely secured on private property!
Great views of the surrounding mountains and a quiet environment to stay the night.

Open views of the mountains to the south, west and north towards Cripple Creek. Nighttime noises consist of roosters, owls, bats, frogs, winds blowing through leaves. Visual light pollution is at a minimum, allowing great star gazing.

Karin was very friendly and laid-back. There are absolutely beautiful views of the mountains and the grassy field is nice as well. The chickens wandering were a pleasant surprise as well (eggs a bonus). The neighbors were a tad obnoxious but that was the only thing. Overall I enjoyed staying here and would come again.
Karin and her son were both very hospitable and welcoming. We were the only campers there. The spot is just an open part of her back lot. Very simple yet convenient spot in town. All the other spots in Canon City seem to be a distance away from downtown. Fresh eggs were a bonus!
Loved our stay again! A beautiful safe space to camp for the night. We love this spot because we know we can set up camp and explore and all our things are looked after. The people and place are so kind and welcoming. And the sunsets over the mountains are perfection. Will be back!
Unfortunately, we did not have a great experience. I wouldn’t call this a campsite in nature, more so someone’s yard that was once clearly a cow field as there was cow poop all over - even in the spot with the picnic table we were planning to camp by. It doesn’t look anything like the photos - there was no grass at all. When I informed Karin that she should update her photos, she was quite rude and condescending to me - acting as if I haven’t been in nature before. Please note, it’s also literally infested with grasshoppers which is not a big deal but sharing for other campers. Would not recommend.
The weather had things out of Karin’s control but she still made the experience a great one for us and let us stay. Her property is close enough to town and still offers silence and peace outside of it. The cows were so sweet and sunset was beautiful. Thank you again!
the views of sunrise to the east and mountains to the west are just what we were hoping for. karin was a great host, and the directions to get to the location were perfect. thanks again
This was a great spot to boondock right in Cañon City. Close to everything, but in a quiet and peaceful part of town, far from busy roads. Karin is a great host and a terrific communicator….highly recommend!
I really enjoyed tent camping on Karin’s land! It’s close to town, with mountain views! A great host who made sure we had what we needed to be comfortable.
Karin’s land was a perfect safe sleeping spot on our cross country road trip! We got in late and left early with no problems. Karin was great and easy to communicate with. We also loved the add-on option to buy a dozen fresh eggs from the chickens on the land! So fun! Thanks Karin!
We were traveling across Colorado and needed a stop for the night not too far off the route. This place was perfect. It was a rustic field that we were able to set up for the night that was a short drive to town (gas, supermarket, coffee…etc). There was a little road noise and some houses around, but for a quick overnight, it was fine. We saw a deer in the morning too!! On-leash pet friendly was a plus.
