Piney Hills Campground

I absolutely loved my stay here! I actually ended up coming back to stay again on the same trip! I stayed at site 3 the first night and it was spacious, but also not so far away from others that I felt isolated. The dark skies were beautiful, and the campground was super quiet. I loved seeing the horses right across from us! My second night was at site 10 and it was super spacious. Lisa was super helpful and friendly, and Mike who helps with grounds was a lifesaver when my car wouldn’t start the morning of checkout. The bathrooms were cute and very clean— they exceeded my expectations and having a full shower was such a bonus while camping! The aframes were adorable and I can’t wait to see what else they develop on this campground! So glad I found this place—10/10 recommended!

Quiet and Cozy!!

Lisa & James have a cozy set up. The showers were clean and the aminals were friendly. We were only here for a night, but highly recommend! Just bring your food and drinks beforehand. Not much for dining close by.

Piney Hills Campground was amazing place to stay. The a-frame was great, even had ac so when we went into the a-frame. The farm has amazing animals that are so sweet and love to be shown love! We even did the covered wagon ride to the winery which was an add on, a wonderful experience where we got to see great views and different sites in Mauk. If you are able you should definitely take the trip to the winery! Can’t wait for our next trip up there!

Nice spot to spend a couple days

This is becoming a very nice campground. It’s still a work in progress but the facilities are all first class. We stayed in a pull thru with electric and water. Nice views if the adjacent animal farm. A new bathhouse on the premises with four individual complete bathroom shower combo. They have a laundry area and the host will also sell you firewood. It’s a nice place but it’s out of the way. The road to the campground is red dirt so either you’re going to have a cloud of dust or mud when it has rained. The tent area has a great tree canopy but the rv spots are in a tree less area so it’s nice if you have air conditioning in your rig. Would probably go there again if in the vicinity

Great place to camp

What a perfect place to camp! With the campground situated on a farm with a locking gate at the front, you feel safe yet immersed in nature. I had two horses come up to my campsite in the morning. They’re so friendly! This was my first time camping alone, as I’ve camped with family many times in the past. Light a fire first to see where smoke is blowing, then set up your tent. I found a nice decently flat spot. I would recommend this to anyone. I hope to be back in the future.

Beautiful homestead, well-developed

Beautiful homestead with a lot of land invested in the continued development of the campground portion of the property. Easy to locate our site and very spacious area. The ponies wandered up towards us on their side of the fence and appreciated pets. The covered tent platform was a huge W since a large thunderstorm rolled through in the middle of the night. Looking forward to our next visit!

Site #4 - Platform in the Pines

I took this trip by myself 5 days and it was perfect!!! Their manager Mike west was perfect. Ive never met a person with such excellent customer service and hosting style that he gave. The facilities, restroom and grounds were very clean. The animals were amazing. The hiking trail is phenomenal and it’s so quiet and peaceful there. I would definitely recommend this place to families with children, and groups of friends that want to get away in the cut and have lots of fun it was the perfect campsite. I will definitely be back 100% Thank you lisa and James for having me. I was a female by myself for five days and I felt 100% safe. I had zero issues.

Kind hosts, cute animals

This campsite feels incredibly safe the moment you arrive. The hosts are really warm and welcoming. Someone comes through 1-2 times a day to check on you - just enough to be courteous but never intrusive or distracting from your trip. The animals are a delight and the facilities are clean, thoughtfully designed and just what you need. For example, the platform on site 5 has hardware all around the edges so you can tie down your tent, which I've never seen before. Definitely recommend! Site 5 was lovely. You're nestled in the trees but still close to everything. You have a view of the miniature horse pasture and the platform came in handy during a strong storm my first night. Site 3 also looked really lovely. It's on a grassy area that almost feels like a meadow view with the horses across from you, but with your back nestled up to the trees. Would happily camp in either of those spots again. Two things to be aware of: Like other reviews said, the roosters do crow around the clock. You'll hear the other animals, too. During the storm, I heard a lot from them. My second night they were much quieter, but I enjoyed hearing them so it didn't bother me. The freight train does move through the area frequently on a Friday night, which I enjoyed hearing less. I would consider camping S/Su next time to avoid that.

The most beautiful stay

This was such a beautiful piece of land. So peaceful and well maintained. The farms animals were so cute and all the facilities were super clean and well maintained. I wish we got to stay for at least 5 nights here since it was so lovely. The grounds keeper was super helpful and very informative, he definitely made us feel welcome. The A-frame we stayed in was perfect and super comfortable. Thanks for a beautiful stay!

Great stay for families

Hade a great time staying at this site. The location was great and there was plenty to do for our family. A couple notes before staying here: - Electricity and water are available near the bathrooms and laundry, not at the camp sites. - There are lots of animals on the farm and we loved visiting with them. - Bring earplugs if you don't want the rooster giving you an early wake up call. - Family friendly site where we felt comfortable with our teenage kids exploring. - Couldn't get a response from the hosts when messaging through the app during our stay. The staff at the site was very friendly and answered our questions. We would definitely stay here again.

The platform is well-built and has tent tie-down anchors, which were very handy and avoided the need for tent stakes. The site is not crowded like state parks can be, yet within eyesight of other sites through trees, which is fine. The bathrooms are nice and were kept clean and stocked. (Although, the automatic lights were a tad annoying when they turned off while you’re still in the bathroom.) The site is *just* far enough away from the office where the WiFi becomes pretty spotty. However, we’re camping to unplug, right?! Nonetheless, it was a pleasant stay except for the stupid train that woke me up several times in the middle of multiple nights during our stay. But the owners can’t really help that - who are very nice and accommodating.

This was such a great stop! Lisa and James were so nice, their little farm was well kept and my kids loved the animals. We stayed in one of their RV spots, the facility was really nice, hot showers, laundry, clean bathrooms and they have a dump station on site!! I will be back here.

Campground is well run, clean, safe, with nice bathrooms. The campsite we had was private with good shade. I didn't get any bug bites, no ticks or chiggers. Lisa was friendly and super responsive to any requests. Lots of farm animals and walking trails. Highly recommend.

Perfect escape from modern society!

This place was nothing short of amazing. We booked tent site #3 and upon arrival, the space was clean and ready to go with two beautiful ponies as neighbors! Lisa & staff were extremely helpful and if you are lucky enough, you might even get a visit from Loki, the farm working dog! We were able to visit a number of other farm animals that were ready to see us. Outhouse/bath area was very clean which made this trip feel like a luxury while being nestled in nature. Needless to say, we did not want to leave. Will definitely be back!

Friendly people and pup.

We enjoyed our two day stop here. The solitude was refreshing. Everyone was super friendly (not overly so). Loki the camp mascot does an amazing job of greeting guests including the 4 legged furry variety. My schnauzer is a bark first kind of pup. It only took a few moments and they were the best of friends. The facilities and sites are clean and well organized. This is a relatively new campground and I look forward to seeing how it grows. Thanks for a wonderful escape.

Campground switch, disrupted plans.

RV STEPS AWAY FROM BARN

The campgrounds were clean, the farm animals were sweet and the dogs were friendly. This is a good space for many, but it wasn't the experience our friends and I had planned as they moved us from the adjacent a frame to the RV at the back of the property, thus separating our group to opposite ends of the campgrounds. When I explained that we had a planned trip with friends, that was never acknowledged, which felt insensitive. So, that my honest review. I'm sure we would have had a better experience if it had been handled better.

Sweet spot

Sweet camp spot which suited our needs perfectly after our visit to Pasaquan. Tiny A-frame was clean as were the showers. Quiet and peaceful. Morning coffee in the office was a welcome extra. A little challenging to find at night (it’s dark in the country!) but it made for incredible star-gazing.

Liza & James were very welcoming and Mike their camp assistant was very helpful in pointing out the camps amenities. Bathrooms and showers were very clean and it was nice that when you walked up to them the lights automatically came on. Lisa and James have quite the menagerie of animals, all fun to watch. If you have children they would get a kick out of watching the animals. Lisa & James enjoy explaining all the breeds.
