Creature comforts
Enjoy the comforts of home at some sites—including flush toilets, showers, and a kitchen.
Abrams Creek is like camping in a nature preserve, rather than in a commercial campground. On our campground, there are no generators, loud electronics, or other things that would distract from appreciating the sights and sounds of this pristine natural environment.
And this is always a great place to beat the heat! We have a mountain climate; the peak temperature most days in the summer is in the high 70's or very low 80's, and at night, temperatures go down to about 60. You'll be breathing cool, clean, fresh mountain air all day long!
Hot showers are included, and all sanitary facilities are *sterilized* between guests. We have taken every measure to safeguard your health!
We are located in the mountainous Potomac Highlands region of West Virginia. Our vision is an environmentally conscious, eco-friendly campground developed in harmony with nature. We are not only a business, but also serve as an anchor for others who want to live more simply and close to the earth. The concept of rural revitalization means reinventing rural life so that it is economically sound, intellectually stimulating, and emotionally satisfying. Ask any of our staff if you would like to learn more about this!

Campsite at Abrams Creek Campground
97% (104)
RV/tent site · Sleeps 13 · Vehicles under 7 m
--Note about campsite numbers: you will be assigned a number when you reserve a site, but these do not match with the site numbers at the campground. We will reach out after the reservation to make sure you get a campsite that suits your needs--
Abrams Creek Campground and Retreat brings you as close as possible to pristine nature. Tent sites are generously sized, spaced well apart, shaded, and on soft natural earth. Cabins are secluded and set into the forest.
You are never far from our wild, whitewater stream. In some places, it is a constant source of energy and playfulness; in other places, it is peaceful and calming, inviting you to soak in its beauty.
Camping at Abrams Creek is more like camping in a nature preserve, than in a commercial campground. On our campground, there are no generators, loud electronics, or other things that would distract from appreciating the sights and sounds of this pristine natural environment.
We have several portapotties near the tent sites, and a showerhouse near the main lodge with hot and cold water.
Campsites and cabins are well spaced out, so that there is never a feeling of crowding. Many are riverside sites; you can choose between wild whitewater, rushing river, and wider calmer areas. All campsites are soft, level, shaded forest floor with a picnic table, fire ring, and block-and-board bench. We sell charcoal, charcoal lighter, propane, fire starter, and firewood, if you need any of these, all at very competitive prices. In particular, please do not bring your own firewood. This can spread many tree diseases that can harm our beautiful forests!
Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash when outside your tent. Most other pets are not allowed; please call if you have specific questions.
We also rent charcoal grills and propane stoves. The campground has 20 acres of hemlock forest bordered by a wild whitewater stream. Some areas are boulders, pools, and turbulent water—great to watch or play in. One large area towards the end of the campground is a calm wading area good for children (with careful supervision of course), and just past that is a deeper section, 5’-7’ deep, that is good for swimming.
There is not WiFi on the campground, but there is WiFi in the vicinity of the main lodge house. There is also a phone you can use on the lodge porch, with free calls to anywhere in the US, in case your cell phone does not have reception. When you arrive, please come to the main lodge to register--just bear to the left as you enter the grounds.
You are welcome on the grounds anytime that day, but your campsite will not be available until 3 pm. If you will be arriving after 8 pm, please call when you are on your way so we know about what time to expect you. Check-out time is 1 pm on your last day with us.
We offer a variety of accommodations to suit every taste: for those who like roughing it, we have tent sites, and rustic cabins with or without electricity. For those who would like sheets, blankets, and towels provided and full cooking facilities, we have a six-bedroom guest house, and a 2-bedroom retreat cottage with full kitchen, bath, washer/dryer, and more. We also have a conventional motel 3 miles from the campground.

This WV property was charming. We arrived shortly after rainfall. The sound of rushing water and the fog, something out of a movie. Large bolders covered with moss scattered throughout the forest gave a unique landscape. The cabin was cozy. Fair price on firewood. Would return.
Wonderful campground!! We had a lovely spot by the river with plenty of room for several tents. The check in process was easy. I would definitely stay here again!
Great tucked away spot for camping!!! Lovely grounds, secluded and wildlife abundant. Had a short tailed weasel come through our campsite! And deer walk right up to our tent right along the river/creek. The people in charge are pleasant and kind to talk to, they will let you know of everything to do within the area and hand you a paper with all the details and directions to get you to all the destinations. Definitely recommend for anyone looking to camp!
quiet and beautiful campsite by the creek. just type abrams creek on maps since the address from hipcamp led to private property a mile away. other than that I enjoyed my stay!
The site always beautiful and serene along the creek. The creek was perfect for a midday cold plunge in the fall. I came with a large group for a birthday trip and Sarah was very helpful and nice. Some of the sites are quite close to one another for a larger group. Overall we had a great time and hope to visit again.
Nice, secluded spot. Worth it for us to choose a walk-in site. At the time we were there, there was no one else camping near us. Kind people running the campground.
This little camp ground has awesome cozy tent sites right along the creek. The management is great and there is firewood and outdoor showers for your comfort.
If you like creeks (especially the sound and direct access), seclusion, peace, and don't mind using potty Johns and walk ~long to shower, this campground should attract you. Mostly all tents, no RVs. I can see the campground's glorious past. Sites right by the creek are well worth the trip.
Great tent sites right by the river. Hot showers. Porta Johns were hit or miss. Some were immaculate. Host was great and would definitely stay here again.
My family and I loved camping at this location. The creek was beautiful, the weather was amazing, the shaded trees were gorgeous, the campsite was super close to the creek, it was such good experience that we stayed one night longer.
What an amazing place to camp. Tree covered, creek to swim in. Several state parks in a near drive. Michael was a great host and would definitely come again.
My friends and I loved Abrams! We are 4 visibly queer people (including POC), so we were a little nervous, but Sarah made us feel very safe and welcome. The campgrounds themselves are so beautiful. The site that was recommended to us was perfect - large, private, and close to the creek. We were bummed to only stay one night! The wood is very reasonably priced, and I appreciated Sarah's orientation to help us get familiar with the grounds. Our only concerns were that the portapotties were a little rough (including the one by our site which was difficult to lock without help), and we picked up a lot of trash around our site before unpacking. We appreciated the handwashing sink though. Abrams has a much more rustic vibe than a traditional campground (which we loved), and we'd definitely stay there again. Note - the site we stayed at probably required 4WD! Worked for us, but may be harder for other cars.
Great space at site 20 right next to the water yet somehow no mosquitoes and they usually eat me alive. 5 year old sons first time camping and it was perfect for him. Swimming was a big highlight and the hosts were super responsive.
Wonderful experience at Abrams Campground. The staff was friendly and helped us pick a spot and gave info. We tent camped, our spot was secluded and right next to a beautiful swimming hole. The water is crystal clear. Very quiet and peaceful. We walked around the grounds and saw many different beautiful sites that we would definitely go back to stay at. We would definitely reccomended this spot.
A nice stop on a beautiful stream. Site 15 was nice and shaded from the heat of the day. Cooler air was drawn in by a nice breeze off the creek. Quite evening environment.
Abrams Creek is among the most beautiful and serene places we’ve been. What was most memorable in addition to the serenity of the sound of water rushing over rocks through the creek was the climate. Consistently, the weather around Abrams Creek is 10-15 degrees cooler than it is in DC (where we live). This weekend (late June), it was in the mid-90s in DC and in the high 70s or low 80s at ACC mid-day. Our kids had so much fun splashing in the creek and running around the peaceful trails and there were enough people around that we didn’t feel alone but enough space to really feel secluded. Moreover, being right off a well paved road and ~8 minutes from little stores made us feel like we could get what we needed with no issue. One thing to note is that there are only porta potties at ACC and if you (or your kids) are not into that sort of thing, it requires a little creativity. That being said, the experience is well worth it! With great proximity to Seneca Rocks (and their awesome visitor center), Blackwater Falls, and Davis, this place is at the top of our list.
We had a wonderful weekend of tent camping at Abrams Creek. The site chosen for our group of 6 was large, with a beautiful view of the creek. We had two larger tents, and there was plenty of flat, open space to set them up & still have tons of room for other things. The access to the creek was great and provided hours of exploring. We were also right near a swimming hole, which my kids loved. The campgrounds were well kept and the hosts were wonderful. We will absolutely make this one of our yearly camping destinations!
Great campsite! Michael was very cool and helpful, provided great written directions to all the local spots! There’s an amazing swimming hole on the campground, our campsite was beautiful and well thought out with a great spot to park and set up the tent. Showers were awesome and there was even an indoor and outdoor option that both had hot water! Overall 10/10
It was a beautiful and quiet campground. Definitely not for a beginner camper, but for somebody who can appreciate nature, you will absolutely love it.
The sites were well equipped with fire ring and table, lots of trees for our hammocks, the creek behind was awesome for the kids to play in! The only misfortune was that the shower houses only had cold water, which can be expected for as primitive as this campground is. The staff were wonderful and the outdoor toilets were cleaner than most I have ever seen! They even had an outdoor hand washing station which was great!! Overall great stay, aside from the rain, we had a wonderful weekend!
My son and his 4 friends had a great time camping at Abrams Creek for two nights. Michael checked them in and their campsite was clean and it was easy to set up their tent. The showers were nice to have even though they only used them once. Location was peaceful and serene. My son commented on how everyone was so friendly wherever they went. They’d love to come back again.
Great place to spend a night, a weekend or a week! The tent site are ideal, and the creek and ground are beautiful. Staff was super helpful, and the location is perfect. I will definitely be back!
The host was very kind and informative and the campsite was absolutely beautiful! Would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful camping experience and would absolutely stay again
