Smith Ridge Harper&#x27;s Ferry

We had the BEST time here. Matt (& his family) are fantastic - super sweet and helpful w/ great hiking recs. And definitely get your firewood from them! Perfect spot for when you want to be secluded, but not feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere (which we needed for the first-time camper in our group). Super easy to get to the Appalachian Trail, some nearby mom & pops, and Harpers Ferry (which is adorable). As stated by Matt & in some other reviews - the terrain is steep and rocky so be mindful of that. And make sure you bring the right car to make it up the hill.

We had a good time and the host was nice. The site was just not what we expected. We thought it would be more excluded but it was a plot of land in the woods in a developed area with a lot of houses around it. We were close to the road and it was nothing like it was advertised. Certainly thought it would be a better more secluded spot for 80 dollars.

We loved camping at Matt’s place! It’s only about 10 minutes from Harper’s Ferry and super close to the AT trail too. Matt was super friendly, fun to talk to and brought us fire wood after our camping stove ran out of kerosene. Everything was clean and quiet. Highly recommended.

Hidden Gem Cozy Tiny House Retreat

We stayed at this amazing tiny house during a recent bikepacking trip, and it was exactly what we needed. Clean, dry, and super cozy, with a comfortable bed, hot shower, and an inviting deck where we could relax and listen to the breeze in the trees. It feels remote enough to give you that "camping in the woods" experience, but it's still close to the main road for a quick run into town. The space was thoughtfully set up, with everything we needed to be comfortable after a long day of riding. The bed was large and comfortable, and the hot shower was a total luxury. We loved spending time on the deck in the evening, soaking in the quiet and stars. The room even had a Keurig, and we spent a leisurely morning on the deck with coffee, serenaded by birds. What truly made the stay exceptional was the host, Matt. He went above and beyond to make sure we had water, cooking gear, and anything else we might need. Friendly, helpful, and respectful of our space — exactly the kind of person you hope to meet on the road. Highly recommend for any hiker, bikepacker, or traveler looking for a peaceful, well-equipped retreat in the woods. I’d absolutely stay here again.

Matt and his family were so friendly and accommodating. The cabin is quite cozy in the best way. Matt had the heat on when I arrived and the place was spotless. The shower was wonderful after a long hike…clean and plenty of hot water. The bed was comfortable. The only feedback I have is that the height of the bed was a bit difficult for my 5’1” self to get into and impossible for my dog. But even so, we enjoyed our stay very much!

Great for Glamping

The host was really nice! Would be cool if he got a big sign or something to mark where the site is a bit better. As in other reviews, it backed right up to his home but some curtains are provided for the window where anything could possibly be visible to your neighbors. The propane shower is what makes it. We brought our little portable potty and it was as comfortable as being at home. Bring a step stool for the bed though if you can't jump! The door to the cabin, while it locked, also did not have a key and we didn't *love* not being able to lock our dog/stuff up behind us when we went out. However most of the time when you camp, you're not bringing your greatest valuables either. It was great and we plan to come back to it in warmer months for a longer stay, awesome trip but Harper's Ferry is really too big to explore everything in just two days :)

Not Private But Very Cozy

Overall, we had a great experience. We were just not aware of how close the cabin was to the hosts’ residence and other cabin. If you’re deciding to go during the winter months and have a dog, ensure to bring an elevated dog bed and lots of blankets for them since the floors are so cold. It was probably a 30-40 degree difference from the floor to the bed. Also, the bed is very high (waist height on me and I’m 5’7) so it was difficult for my medium sized dog to jump up to escape the cold floor. The hot shower was very enjoyable, though. :)

This place is magical. If you’re used to Air bnb or Away cabins this is a perfect alternative. If you’re a tent camper, this is luxury with all of the amenities. It’s nicely secluded while being close to town. Matt is an excellent host and our city dogs loved the chance to stretch their legs. We will definitely be back soon.

My husband and I really enjoyed this campsite! It was so much fun. The area was gorgeous. The weather was perfect. The site was clean and spacious. Everything was so peaceful and quiet. Matt stopped by to check on us and see if we needed anything. He is a great host! I definitely recommend this place and will be coming back again. I knew we were going to have a nice fall weekend, but this far exceeded my expectations.

Hidden Gem for last minute camping.

Absolutely perfect camping experience! This tent campsite exceeded all expectations. The grounds were pristine, and it was clear that Matt put great care into maintaining each site. The wooded forest views are awesome with plenty of shade and privacy thanks to the well-spaced trees. Amenities like clean porta-john restroom. We loved the peaceful atmosphere and awesome campfire pits. It’s a five-star gem that we can't wait to visit again!

Quality spot. Quiet, chill. Host was friendly and helpful, easy access to hiking, Harper's Ferry, rivers, trails, etc. Close to local stores for necessities. Spot a Pot was close and clean. No neighbors/minimal human interactions. We played music, built large campfires. Host had wood for sale plus plenty of wood in surround forest. I'm coming back.

Site is nice and wooded. Price is really higher for a bare site with no water or electric ($86/night) Worse part were the 4-wheelers that had no exhaust flying down the gravel road at all times of the night. 12am, 2am, 3am. Not only loud but going very fast. I won’t be returning nor would I suggest this location to anyone.

This is a great spot. Nice area for tent with table and fire pit near one another. The campsite is very close to Harper’s Ferry - good spot if you want to spend a few days in a comfortable spot. Matt was really helpful getting me set up when I arrived. I will definitely be back

Smith's Ridge is a hidden gem! A quiet mountaintop refuge where you can enjoy camping under the stars year round. They have heated cabins and absolutely ridiculous fall foliage here. Worth a visit. Matt, the host was very hospitable and hosts a lovely campground. Will return!
