Weekend Trip to Woods and Meadows Farm

An amazing experience all around! Ann’s property is amazing with many trails to meander through. The cabin is beautiful with a lot of attention to detail. There is even a photo album with the Cabin’s history to look through. It is obvious the land and space are well cared for. We stopped for a night on our way to Madeline Island, Wisconsin and it was the perfect halfway point. Ann is very kind and attentive. Even providing extras for our dog. Her dog, Daisy, joined us for the evening and checked in the next morning. Daisy was the cherry on the Sunday! We appreciated being given some farm fresh eggs to cook while camping! We will definitely be back.

Weekend Trip to Hidden Pines

A perfect little camp site up north. (2 adults, 2 golden retrievers.) Nice amenities and very scenic. Although we didn’t need anything, the little shop had lots of items for sale if you forgot something. Yard games were available for free to use. Alternate route trails to sites was a nice touch. Signage was very clear and parking area was nicely mowed.

Weekend Trip to Floodwood Municipal Campground

This is a great little place to camp, very peaceful and right on the river. There is a nice fishing dock and some additional little trails to fish from shore. Camp sites are well maintained and required very little leveling for our 30ft camper. Bathroom/shower house was clean and well maintained as well. Oh and I almost forgot to mention it is super dog friendly!!! Look forward to camping here again!

Sure! Here's a positive human-style review for Amnicon Falls State Park Campground: --- I recently camped at Amnicon Falls State Park, and I absolutely loved the experience. The campground is peaceful, clean, and surrounded by beautiful forest. The best part for me was the waterfalls—they’re just a short walk from the campsites and look stunning, especially at sunset. The trails are easy to explore and perfect for a relaxing hike or just enjoying the sounds of nature. The campsites are well spaced out, so you don’t feel crowded, and there’s plenty of shade from the trees. I stayed at a non-electric site, and it was really quiet and relaxing. There are basic amenities like clean vault toilets and drinking water, which was all I needed for a rustic experience. It’s also a great place for families. I saw kids running around, building fairy houses, and enjoying the outdoors. It’s close enough to Duluth if you need supplies but far enough to feel like you’ve really escaped the city. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a peaceful, nature-filled camping trip with beautiful scenery and great trails!

Weekend Trip to Off-Grid Cabin

This is a very neat cabin, and you can tell a lot of work has been put into it. The cart to bring your belongings over the bridge was very handy, and it stayed very toasty warm despite the snow on the ground and frigid temperatures. The only downfalls were that the lights didn’t work, so I would recommend extra batteries for your headlamps. There are mice here so whatever you don’t keep in the fridge I would keep any food locked up in your cooler. Also, there is a constant odor of propane in the cabin which concerned me but I guess it’s normal. Overall this place is indeed off the grid, secluded, and very beautiful and unique. I’ll be looking to come back in my future ventures north.

Learn more about this land: Next to the Wilbert Cafe & El Toro Lounge, and Speedway gas station in Cotton Minnesota USA. Odessa, is located in the Central far East section of the Sax-Zim Bog. USA. Near by is a Cafe, Two churches, A Community Center, US Post Office complex. At the Community Center, Post Office complex and Park with child-playground, In the park is a out-house that can be used 24/7, it is open to the public. All within the commercial district of Cotton Minnesota. Also the outhouse has electricity and there is a light .... Sax -Zim Bog Welcome Center is 12 miles west. Bog's : Winterberry Bog, Yellow-bellied Bog, and Indian Pipe Bog, are just west on Arkola Road. Fire wood is free, I have been cutting wood, but is still in short supply and fire banned while dangerous dry conditions persist. We have gotten rain so it is better now. For you light sleepers staying in a tent, just know none stop traffic off the highway and then the birds started chirping up a storm at 4:30 in the morning. Odessa is not a commercial campground.

We have 5 primitive campsites, one for large groups and three for smaller more private camping and one drive in site for camping out of vehicle or tent . We offer un mapped hiking trails onsite and there is plenty of activities to do within 10 to 15 miles from camp. Activities include swimming at local beaches, Nemadji State Forest, General CC Andrews State Forest, ATV riding, lots of great fishing lakes, several rivers for kayaking and canoeing, local restaurants, coffee houses, movie theater, general store, shopping, antiques/craft, grocery, gas, local brewery, agate center, fire museum. The land was purchased by the Sway family in the late 70's from a farmer and has been in the family since. We are one of the 4 current land owners of this property and plan to keep the land in the family as long as we can. Our home was built in 2011 on part of the property. Since living here we have used the land for hiking, gardening, wood harvesting, selling Christmas trees, and now we are excited for our new adventure of opening a small part of our land for camping. We are excited for you to enjoy our land as much as we do.

PRIMITIVE - HIKE IN CAMPSITE Wilderness Experience Minutes from Duluth About the campsite: THIS PROPERTY IS RUGGED WITH MINIMAL DEVELOPMENT BEYOND HIKING TRAIL AND CAMP AMENITIES. Camp Palustria is on the edge of a beautiful marsh within 75 feet of a trout stream. It is about 1000ft off of the Superior Hiking Trail. The campsite is primitive which includes fire pit with grill, table, and composting outhouse. The site is about a 600ft hike from the road where you'll park. The first 400ft of the trail is a swamp with a simple elevated boardwalk through most of it. 95% of the time is it passable with hiking boats or street shoes, but there might be some muddy spots. Dispersed winter camping is also available. This campsite was featured on NPR Marketplace Campsite is closed during hunting season. About the property: Trembling Gardens is my 10 acre swamp camp paradise in the rural suburb of Rice Lake. The property is about 20 minutes away from downtown Duluth and Canal Park and has easy access to the North Shore.

Sometimes there's a dog staying at the other cabin. Wildlife is also in the area, so we require that dogs be supervised and leashed, for their safety, and our wild animal neighbors. We keep the peace and quiet of all of our guests in mind. DRAGON LOFT has one double bed in a loft with a ladder. Great for two people. Room for a dog bed or kennel below the loft. Has a nice reading/coffee room, fridge, oil radiator, WiFi, deck with table and chairs and patio with fire ring. You can cook on a grill outside. You have full use of the trails in our woods! RAVEN WATCH is larger and comfortable for up to four people. Solar power, off grid (no WiFi). Double bed upstairs overlooking the pond, and downstairs by the cozy wood stove. A cute little kitchen with a nice gas stove and wash area. Fire ring outside. Wood supply. Price based on two adults. Small fee for up to two more people +pets. Farther from the house, closer to the creek and woods! Park next to the cabin. We raised our children here, and over 45 yrs have planted trees and pollinator acres. Hello everyone! Thanks for your interest in Balsam Ridge! Many of you folks have been here and know how much we thouroughly enjoy hosting! Some of you also know that we've been caring for my 93 year old mom for the last two years here at our home. Over the winter we realized that as the days progress, so does the amount of care she needs. For this reason we've decided to put our retreat on pause, and give her our best for this last season of her life. We appreciate your understanding. Many folks that have visited our place refer to it as 'country living in the city'. We are so blessed to live in this little piece of serenity just inside the city limits of Duluth. It was once an abandoned house that sat for years, until a friend mentioned to us that it might be going up for sale. We loved the location and rolled up our sleeves. Twenty years later we still marvel at the beauty around us and can hardly believe that we LIVE here! Just down the road is a trout stream and just beyond that was a popular farm that attracted many folks to this neighborhood for hay rides and sleigh rides. The farm has since retired it's horses and closed it's doors to make room for new homes, but memories live on in the beauty of the open fields. I often imagine the sound of horses and sleigh bells and people singing carols and then warming up around a toasty fire sipping hot cocoa. Some of those memories live on right here at Balsam Ridge (minus the horses). Over the years many groups of folks have enjoyed a sense of community in these back woods no matter the season. Campfires, kids catching frogs, neighborhood campouts, snow picnics, hair-raising toboggan runs, family campouts, spiritual silent retreats, a take-your-breath-away giant swing, and some tales too daring to mention are all part of the fun. This is why we do what we do. We've been given much, and love to give back. It just wouldn't seem right to keep all this good to ourselves.

Enjoy the touristy sites of the twin ports and then retreat to a quiet rural rustic campsite for a fire and conversation at the end of the day.
