Weekend Trip to Woods and Meadows Farm

An amazing experience all around! Ann’s property is amazing with many trails to meander through. The cabin is beautiful with a lot of attention to detail. There is even a photo album with the Cabin’s history to look through. It is obvious the land and space are well cared for. We stopped for a night on our way to Madeline Island, Wisconsin and it was the perfect halfway point. Ann is very kind and attentive. Even providing extras for our dog. Her dog, Daisy, joined us for the evening and checked in the next morning. Daisy was the cherry on the Sunday! We appreciated being given some farm fresh eggs to cook while camping! We will definitely be back.

Cute campground nestled in the middle of town. Very clean. Very quiet. Recent upgrades visible.

2 nights at Superior Beach Camp

This campsite was such a treasure! It was a wide open space with a separate area for a lookout and a quick walk to the beach. There were bears in the area, however we were able to park our car next to us which eased our minds. It was beautiful, private, and peaceful. There was even firewood already cut for us. The outhouse located on site was in pristine condition. We had a wonderful time.

Weekend Trip to Hidden Pines

A perfect little camp site up north. (2 adults, 2 golden retrievers.) Nice amenities and very scenic. Although we didn’t need anything, the little shop had lots of items for sale if you forgot something. Yard games were available for free to use. Alternate route trails to sites was a nice touch. Signage was very clear and parking area was nicely mowed.

Weekend Trip to Floodwood Municipal Campground

This is a great little place to camp, very peaceful and right on the river. There is a nice fishing dock and some additional little trails to fish from shore. Camp sites are well maintained and required very little leveling for our 30ft camper. Bathroom/shower house was clean and well maintained as well. Oh and I almost forgot to mention it is super dog friendly!!! Look forward to camping here again!

Sure! Here's a positive human-style review for Amnicon Falls State Park Campground: --- I recently camped at Amnicon Falls State Park, and I absolutely loved the experience. The campground is peaceful, clean, and surrounded by beautiful forest. The best part for me was the waterfalls—they’re just a short walk from the campsites and look stunning, especially at sunset. The trails are easy to explore and perfect for a relaxing hike or just enjoying the sounds of nature. The campsites are well spaced out, so you don’t feel crowded, and there’s plenty of shade from the trees. I stayed at a non-electric site, and it was really quiet and relaxing. There are basic amenities like clean vault toilets and drinking water, which was all I needed for a rustic experience. It’s also a great place for families. I saw kids running around, building fairy houses, and enjoying the outdoors. It’s close enough to Duluth if you need supplies but far enough to feel like you’ve really escaped the city. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a peaceful, nature-filled camping trip with beautiful scenery and great trails!

Weekend Trip to Off-Grid Cabin

This is a very neat cabin, and you can tell a lot of work has been put into it. The cart to bring your belongings over the bridge was very handy, and it stayed very toasty warm despite the snow on the ground and frigid temperatures. The only downfalls were that the lights didn’t work, so I would recommend extra batteries for your headlamps. There are mice here so whatever you don’t keep in the fridge I would keep any food locked up in your cooler. Also, there is a constant odor of propane in the cabin which concerned me but I guess it’s normal. Overall this place is indeed off the grid, secluded, and very beautiful and unique. I’ll be looking to come back in my future ventures north.

The first 400ft of the trail is a swamp with a simple elevated boardwalk through most of it. 95% of the time is it passable with hiking boats or street shoes, but there might be some muddy spots. About the property: Trembling Gardens is my 10 acre swamp camp paradise in the rural suburb of Rice Lake. The property is about 20 minutes away from downtown Duluth and Canal Park and has easy access to the North Shore.

We have 5 primitive campsites, one for large groups and three for smaller more private camping and one drive in site for camping out of vehicle or tent . We offer un mapped hiking trails onsite and there is plenty of activities to do within 10 to 15 miles from camp. Activities include swimming at local beaches, Nemadji State Forest, General CC Andrews State Forest, ATV riding, lots of great fishing lakes, several rivers for kayaking and canoeing, local restaurants, coffee houses, movie theater, general store, shopping, antiques/craft, grocery, gas, local brewery, agate center, fire museum. The land was purchased by the Sway family in the late 70's from a farmer and has been in the family since. We are one of the 4 current land owners of this property and plan to keep the land in the family as long as we can. Our home was built in 2011 on part of the property. Since living here we have used the land for hiking, gardening, wood harvesting, selling Christmas trees, and now we are excited for our new adventure of opening a small part of our land for camping. "All are welcome here." We love sharing our beautiful space, and want you to feel safe and secure. Explore woods, trails, meadows. Peaceful, private, close to bike trails, Jay Cooke State Park and Duluth. Each cabin has its own special ambiance. These are comfortable, rustic cabins with no running water (water supplied). -Not "ADA" however! *Well behaved, house broken dogs welcome, and supervised older children. ;) It helps us to know your ETA in advance and to update us so that we can plan our day as well! Once you are in the area, message us a bit before your arrival so we can meet you and set you up properly! We enjoy hosting, plus we enjoy hearing about your travels and adventures if you feel like sharing. Ask about local destinations/events! *We have free range chickens and friendly border collie. Sometimes there's a dog staying at the other cabin. Wildlife is also in the area, so we require that dogs be supervised and leashed, for their safety, and our wild animal neighbors. No dogs may be left unattended in our cabins while you go out! Take your canine pal with you! Quiet hours are dusk to 7am. Also consider your dog's inclination for barking. We keep the peace and quiet of all of our guests in mind. DRAGON LOFT has one double bed in a loft with a ladder. Great for two people. Room for a dog bed or kennel below the loft. Has a nice reading/coffee room, fridge, oil radiator, WiFi, deck with table and chairs and patio with fire ring. You can cook on a grill outside. You have full use of the trails in our woods! RAVEN WATCH is larger and comfortable for up to four people. Solar power, off grid (no WiFi). Double bed upstairs overlooking the pond, and downstairs by the cozy wood stove. A cute little kitchen with a nice gas stove and wash area. Fire ring outside. Wood supply. Price based on two adults. Small fee for up to two more people +pets. Farther from the house, closer to the creek and woods! Park next to the cabin. We raised our children here, and over 45 yrs have planted trees and pollinator acres. We always enjoy meeting other travelers. While living and teaching internationally we looked for adventure, staying in a wide range of hostels in developing countries around the globe. We are now retired but still traveling and exploring off-season.

Off Grid Lakeside Yurt

Your yurt overlooks Tamarack Lake. You will have privacy tucked away in the pines with your own setup of kitchen, picnic area, fire pit, and wood fire tub. A hand pump well with delicious clean water is available as well as a personal composting toilet within view of your yurt, through the trees. Our cabin is about 80 yards away and we are always happy to answer questions and lend a hand. Your yurt comes with a small kitchen that includes a two burner stove, grey water sink, pots, pans, dish ware, and utensils. French press, kettle, coffee and tea are provided. You are also welcome to use the outdoor wood fired cooking set up. The yurt has a wood fire stove that keeps the space toasty year round. Firewood is included for your stay. There is no electricity or running water but we provide a lantern and water inside the cabin. We have a small cast iron wood fired tub that overlooks the lake just outside your yurt! If interested let us know and we can assist. This is a great location for each season. With your booking you will have access to the canoes and our dock. Tamarack Lake is wonderful for fishing panfish, pike, and smallmouth. Come fish any season! You can enjoy yourself exploring via canoe or relaxing with a book at our dock! With nearly 10,000 acres of state land out the backdoor and many trails, adventuring can always be done no matter the season. We enjoy hiking, snowshoeing, backcountry xxsking, and hunting depending on the time of year. Activities include swimming at local beaches, Nemadji State Forest, General CC Andrews State Forest, ATV riding, lots of great fishing lakes, several rivers for kayaking and canoeing, local restaurants, coffee houses, movie theater, general store, shopping, antiques/craft, grocery, gas, local brewery, agate center, fire museum. The land was purchased by the Sway family in the late 70's from a farmer and has been in the family since. We are one of the 4 current land owners of this property and plan to keep the land in the family as long as we can. Our home was built in 2011 on part of the property. Since living here we have used the land for hiking, gardening, wood harvesting, selling Christmas trees, and now we are excited for our new adventure of opening a small part of our land for camping. Some of you also know that we've been caring for my 93 year old mom for the last two years here at our home. Over the winter we realized that as the days progress, so does the amount of care she needs. For this reason we've decided to put our retreat on pause, and give her our best for this last season of her life. We appreciate your understanding. Many folks that have visited our place refer to it as 'country living in the city'. We are so blessed to live in this little piece of serenity just inside the city limits of Duluth. It was once an abandoned house that sat for years, until a friend mentioned to us that it might be going up for sale. We loved the location and rolled up our sleeves. Twenty years later we still marvel at the beauty around us and can hardly believe that we LIVE here! Just down the road is a trout stream and just beyond that was a popular farm that attracted many folks to this neighborhood for hay rides and sleigh rides. The farm has since retired it's horses and closed it's doors to make room for new homes, but memories live on in the beauty of the open fields. I often imagine the sound of horses and sleigh bells and people singing carols and then warming up around a toasty fire sipping hot cocoa. Some of those memories live on right here at Balsam Ridge (minus the horses). Over the years many groups of folks have enjoyed a sense of community in these back woods no matter the season. Campfires, kids catching frogs, neighborhood campouts, snow picnics, hair-raising toboggan runs, family campouts, spiritual silent retreats, a take-your-breath-away giant swing, and some tales too daring to mention are all part of the fun. This is why we do what we do. We've been given much, and love to give back. It just wouldn't seem right to keep all this good to ourselves.

Agate campsite previously featured a "look out point" that has been altered by the natural erosion of the red clay banks that comprise much of Lake Superior's south shore. Superior Beach Camp located is 2.5 hours north of the Twin Cities and perfectly positions you to discover all the wonders of the Twin Ports. Explore this amazing area or stay at camp, set up your chair in the sand and take in the many moods of Mother Superior. Watch the ships come and go to the sparkly backdrop of Duluth’s city lights. The crackle of a driftwood fire on the beach provides the perfect soundtrack as you watch for shooting stars and the aurora. Stock up on supplies and explore the charming industrial town of Superior, WI – 15 minutes from your campsite. Spend a day mountain biking the Duluth Traverse and touring the the wonderful local dining and tap room scenes of Duluth and Superior. Canal Park, downtown Duluth, is a 25 minute drive. If you’d like to venture further, you could meander up the North Shore. Or keep it local and check out Bayfield and the Apostle Islands – only 75 minutes East. Stop through the charming lakeside village of Cornucopia on your way. Or perhaps you’d like to experience world class trout fishing on the Brule River a half hour from Superior Beach Camp. Maybe Parks are your thing: Amnicon Falls, one of Wisconsin’s most beautiful State Parks, is reachable in 10 minutes by car. Drive a half hour further to Pattison State Park and take in Wisconsin’s tallest waterfall.
