Cynthia made a racist assumption that I was associated with a neighboring group that violated the rules. She is a rude host and accused me of being a part of a different group based on my name. She does not deserve your business, and refused to apologize for said racist accusation. I was cleanly, respectful of her and her rules only to be met with a nasty message after leaving and confronting the other group. You aren’t welcome here if you are a minority.

Discrimination and Host Misconduct

I’m writing to report a very upsetting and discriminatory experience with host Cynthia K. After our stay, she sent a message saying, “$40 is not worth hosting people like you,” which felt deeply racist and targeted. That language was unnecessary, inappropriate, and clearly rooted in bias. During our stay, Cynthia refused to address us directly and instead made false claims, including saying we left the site late, which was not true. She also threatened to call the police simply because my parents do not speak English. This threat was unprovoked and made us feel unsafe. Rather than resolve anything respectfully, she resorted to making assumptions and accusations about our character. We were respectful guests, and nothing about our actions justified that kind of treatment. Her message, tone, and behavior showed a clear lack of professionalism and a disregard for Hipcamp’s values of inclusion, respect, and community. This experience was painful and humiliating. We felt racially profiled and unwelcome — not because of anything we did, but simply because of who we are. I urge Hipcamp to investigate this host and take appropriate action to prevent others from going through the same.

Good stopping point (for a night)

Quiet and clean (for Highway 1) being so close. Very close to the great views at Redondo Beach (can be walked). On the night I was there, we had all 3 spots taken. With 5-6 folks to one porta potty (with one porta potty bag for all), it can be a challenge ;) Glad they had a firepit and complementary firewood! Make sure to pack your own lighter, fire starter, etc (not provided)

I was there in the camping area alone so I don’t know how I’d feel if there was two other people there as well. Being alone it was wonderful. Having a supply of wood is great, there seems to be a lot of huge pieces of wood that need to be cut smaller because I think I used the majority of the smaller pieces.. The potty was too full. It smelled horrible. Thank you for letting me stay there.

Perfect for those who sleep in vehicles and are just looking for a no-frills place to crash. The driveway, yard, and picnic tables are all nicely maintained. Stayed 2 nights while I was visiting the area and would recommend.

From the moment I pulled into the property, I was spellbound. The site was beautifully maintained with natural Calla Lillies surrounding. They have always been my favorite flower and seeing them was confirmation that I was in the right place. I love enjoying the natural elements together, which is why the firepit was the cherry on top. It was visited by who I call a firewood fairy (lol, but seriously thank you!) daily. The horses nearby were absolutely charming and a magical touch for me. I was the only person at the site, which I didn’t terribly mind, but I could see how it would be a wonderful place to have a small get together with close friends who share a love for nature. My nights were peaceful and filled with the gentle hum of nature, including the lullaby of the Pacific Ocean; it was heavenly! I give this stay the highest rating possible and strongly recommend it to all outdoor enthusiast who have a deep respect for nature.

Great an option for camping in half moon bay! It is simple and by the road, but also very well done & maintained, and the porta potty was very nice. I loved that the beach was literally a 2 min drive away!

Sweet, tidy spot with picnic tables, community fire pit and clean porta potty. Close to town. We were not bothered by road noise at all. Better than expected!

Convenient Site - Tricky Driveway

This site is sweet, well cared for, and conveniently located. My one concern is getting out on the last little steep part of the gravel driveway is a bit rough. I had to take a running start with my Prius, which was unnerving since I was going straight onto Highway 1. Also, it could be more clearly communicated where to find the potable water.

Cynthia was very nice and accommodating. Right off the highway, next to a beautiful field of calla lilies and nearby horses, you could hear the surf occasionally pounding, passing cars once in a while. So close to main Half Moon Bay shopping center, it's a great deal. Definitely use her directions, may be hard to find, but we just made a u-turn and got in the second time around.

Perfect for van campers

We needed a place to park our van to sleep overnight and stay for about 10 hours. Cynthia’s land was perfect. The port-a potty was clean, the land/area was clean, tidy and felt safe. There was a fire pit with wood available, but we didn’t use it. It’s right off hwy 1, so you can hear traffic, but it really wasn’t bad. We had no issues with noise and sleep.

One of a kind small/shared near SF

This was my first experience using Hipcamp and as a previous AirBnb user I felt it was imoietant to leave this review. I had a wonderful experience with this site. It is not like most sites in that Cynthia the host and her family are generously accommodating to the last minute in allowing campers to use their property right outside San Francisco I along the coast of Half Moon Bay for a considerably inexpensive nightly rate. I was somewhat saddened to hear that the property was looking to be sold soon for other uses. Maybe this is a standard story with Hipcamp sites, however, I feel that this was one of those rarities that maybe needs more love and attention to keep it alive and going. But whatever may come, this was a relatively small lot but an excellent choice for campers and sprinters who like a small, shared and integrated campsite off highway 1 near the coast.

Horse farm near road and with sunse

The location was well marked with the sparkly sign and described appropriately. The horse farm was next to the camping area and the host had firewood left out A little set of chairs and a picnic table were there. We did not realize it was so close to the road and so far from the ocean , in that you can’t see the surf , but it was otherwise fine as described

A great place to stay

Just blocks from downtown of Half Moon Bay is a pretty, simple, and affordable place to Hipcamp. We showed up late without the need for further registration or interaction, made ourselves at home, enjoyed using our gear in the privacy of our temporary home away from home, slept well, and left early without additional needless interaction just like we do everywhere we go. Pro tip our first stop the next morning was Dawn Patrol Coffee.

Very convenient overnight stop.

The space was welcoming, and perfectly flat. We loved the clean outhouse!!! We came from the south , so had to backtrack to get the instructions right. But not hard to find once we came in from the north. Roosters started at 3:55am, so be prepared for that. Right on the highway. For better or for worse. Convenience, but also lots of road noise. Overall very good stop.

Safe & comfortable parking for the nice. Well kept road and property. Just the basics- I would have liked more clarification if I was able to use my propane stove during fire warnings- the host did not respond with an answer. 9/10

Easy Overnighter

Easy stop over in Half Moon Bay, directions were clear, spot was as advertised. Campsite was clea and the ports potty was spotless ,I was able to book later in the evening and have a safe spot to sleep overnight. Only negatives was another camping showing up at 2am and frantically shining flashlights around the camp spot. And the location is directly next to hwy 1, so expect to hear passing traffic.

We had a lovely stay at Cynthia's property. Everything is well appointed and clean. Directions are clear. The place is very easy to access via Pacific Highway 1. Highly recommend!

Great Value for Half Moon Bay

The location was great! So close to the beach and other attractions around the area. My son wanted to go camping, go to the beach, and a pumpkin patch.. he loved this campsite since it was so close to everything he wanted to do. He said it was “the best weekend ever”. The site was clean and we loved using the fire pit at night making s’mores. Enough space to park our car and set up our tent. We will come back again.

Challenging access, overpriced,

The access is not marked so It is easy to miss while driving down the highway and very steep as you exit the road onto a patch of dirt before you reach the gravel. I drive a van, definitely not as large as a motorhome, and had a difficult time getting up that steep hill onto the highway into the traffic when I was leaving. It was a little freaky. While it is a clean place with a nice level place to park, IIt is close to the road noise and not as close to the water as implied. I personally felt it was priced too high for what is offered and feel it would be a better place to stay if the rate was less. For $56 I could have stayed in a place with more amenities. The host seemed rather defensive. This might be a good quick stop over for some people traveling through the area but, again, I felt it was way overpriced. I even requested a partial refund from the host because I felt that strongly about it, but was ignored.
