Patchen Farm is a 6 acre, choose and cut Christmas tree farm. Since the farm is only open during the holiday season, in the off season you'll find a working farm (work being done, cars coming and going, etc.). Patchen is located only 10 mins from downtown Los Gatos in one direction and the Santa Cruz beach in the other direction. Perched at the summit of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Patchen offers the scenic beauty of lush redwood forests and views of the surrounding area. There are several wonderful wineries within 5 miles and great hiking and biking trails. The one and only store in the mountains is the Summit Store and just 3 miles down Summit Road. They have plenty of the essentials plus an excellent deli, wine collection and coffee bar. NO CHECK IN OR CHECK OUT NECESSARY NO ATTENDANT ON SITE WATER and POWER are marked with signs (each service is $20 per night): Payment envelopes at red barn door or Venmo 408-605-1522 Zelle 408-605-1522 Water can be found near the giant wreath just inside entrance and on either end of the red barn. Power is 15 amp and can be found near the giant wreath just inside the entrance, mid-way up the parking lot on the in the wood chips and at the tiny red shack.

During the Christmas tree season, Site 3 is where Santa hangs out with our 1955 Chevy truck (in storage off season). It's SMALL, covered in wood chips and has a little lip getting in. FIRE PIT NOT TO BE USED RECOMMENDED ONLY FOR VAN OR TENT

The camp space is a descent size. I would say that the only down side to Patchen is that it’s always a lot of traffic. Cars are coming in and out throughout day and at night sometimes and be a of all the work going on on the site it’s loud. Other than that it’s a beautiful place Kelley is amazing. She came down to greet me and my husband the first day we came and left us to enjoy ourselves for the majority of the time. She came once more to check on us as we did stay for about three weeks. My cat actually went missing twice and both times I messaged her and she looked out for him. She called and told me she ran across my cat and she even went and bought cat food and water to keep him happy until we were able to come get him. She always responds to a message and she’s very laid back with a nice energy. I’d definitely stay again in the future. The place is awesome but having a very nice host that allows you to just enjoy yourself and not breathing down your neck the whole stay is even more inviting. The pine trees are so beautiful and smells amazing! The campsite is always clean and welcoming.

Found the location charming, seeing the young saplings growing on the farm. It is an active tree farm though, in the morning I was woken up by trucks driving around doing work on the farm.

It would be very helpful if the trees along the fence were trimmed a bit. It’s difficult to park an RV under such low hanging branches, and it blocks the solar panels as well. Otherwise the place is beautiful and peaceful. The fresh water is greatly appreciated as well!

This is an amazing find, especially so centrally located in the mountains south of the Bay Area. This allows for exploring cities like Los Gatos and Santa Cruz. I highly recommend this as a stop along your travels!

The trees were cool and smelled great. Water was very close by the giant wreath. Large chorus of frogs nearby hung around most of the night. They did have a larger dog that came sniffing around our tent quite a few times, and a neighbor’s dog (I presume) that barked a fair bit in the evening. Trucks/cars will come in on a road next to the tent campsite once the workday begins in the morning, so if you’re a late and light sleeper, maybe not a great choice. Overall, solid, and felt safe!

Fall asleep to the chorus of frogs and smell of pine. Tree farm seems like a secure location, and is quiet at night after the working farm slows down. Entrance gate is a tight turn and getting on/off the highway to the road is moderately difficult but worth it for vans and smaller travel trailers. We found it convenient for our trips into Monterey.

Super Minimalist — But Pretty Nice

So it's pretty much exactly as advertised and exactly what you'd expect—a relatively flat area covered covered by a bunch of mulch with a picnic table. And that's it. The lack of bathrooms is definitely a bummer, but the pine scent is amazing and frogs in the creek nearby were going crazy. And of course you're surrounded by a bunch of baby Christmas trees. Buddy and me stayed here for a weekend surf trip since there (unsurprisingly) wasn't any last minute availability for any of the main campsites in Santa Cruz but we'll probably be back. It's certainly not the Ritz Carlton or anything, but for 20 bucks you can't beat it haha
