PLEASE READ Hello all! If you're looking for some glamping with creature comforts, while just being 10 minutes away from restaurants. This is the place for you. We are a 5 acre property and home surrounded by tall redwood and oak trees. Very green and lots of shade. These are the amenities/facilities you will have free access to: Pool, Pool chairs and umbrellas, Deck area with sunset view, Trampolines, and hammocks. There is not cooking allowed by or at any of the common areas, due to flies and critters. Cooking and eating is only allowed by your sites and not in any common areas: Hammocks, Trampolines, Pool Area, tables, sink, and deck please follow this rule because we want to prevent our shared areas to be fly and bug infested. We are still working on ridding the flies and cleaning. (please try to bring prepackaged food or something easy. If anything you can drive 10 minutes to nearby food and grocery). In the past we let people cook and eat around the pool but now our whole property is fly infested and I find scattered leftovers on the ground. Thanks for understanding. THERE IS A 1-2 MINUTE HIKE TO THE CAMPSITES 1-5! Poolside campsites are closer to the parking and are bigger. FOR ALL CAMPSITES Free coffee in the mornings on the deck! If you have pets make sure to include the extra fee per pet please! We are very near the Lost Empire Hiking trail less than a mile away! We ask you to please let us know your ETA 30 minutes before coming as there is spotty connection. FOR CHILDREN WHO ARE NOT POTTY TRAINED POOL DIAPERS ARE REQUIRED. WE DO NOT SHARE ELECTRICITY! CHECK OUT OUR NEW LODGING: This property is my home that I live in with my 2 kids. It is a rustic and homey vibe, definitely not a hotel. We want you to come knowing what to expect. Our property offers a pool, and trampolines for the kids. We have a deck patio area that overlooks an amazing view of the redwood forest. Most of our guests are those that come from foreign countries and they all LOVE the property. I love leaving a great impression of our area. RULES: Pack your trash. Rinse your feet before entering the pool. No floaties and pool toys of any type allowed. Do not leave children unsupervised. Do not sit on the edge of the reclinable chairs. Do not sit along the edge of the pool or on the pool cover box. All tables are solely for drinking, cooking is only available on the stumps or on tables brought by the camper. Site 1 is Private and Spacious, it is the only site for vans the size of a sprinter. 6-8 person tent fits comfortably. Backing into the site is only for people with teardrop trailers or small camping vans. The only trailer that is allowed is a teardrop, nothing bigger. NO RVS. RULES: Pack your trash. Site 1 is private and has a great view of the sky and trees. Great for solo travelers! Fits a 3-4 person tent, maybe a little bigger. Has a nice view of the main house! A small wagon to bring some stuff is recommended. PLEASE NOTE: The site is a short 2 MINUTE WALK from the parking area. It is also a downhill (not steep). Site 3 is a 2 MINUTE HIKE FROM PARKING and can comfortably accommodate one large tent or two small tents on a mostly level area. Please note that the ground isn't very flat (we will be renovating it, so plan accordingly. The site offers a beautiful view of the surrounding redwoods. RULES: Pack your trash. Oak tree campsite has fresh, soft dirt for your tents! The site has 3 levels, the first level can fit a 4-5 person tent max to have enough space free space for other things. PLEASE NOTE: The site is a short 2 MINUTE WALK from the parking area. It is also a downhill (not steep). It is one of the furthest sites from the parking (3 MINUTE HIKE), but is private, cozy, secluded and quiet. 1 person is most comfortable here or a minimalist 2 person group. The Rustic Cabin has a queen sized bed as well as a loft above it for KIDS ONLY. It is equipped with a mini fridge and microwave. The restroom is SHARED between all campers on the property. There is just a very short walk to the pool. Amenities provided are as follows: Pool, hammocks, Trampoline (kids only), Zip Line, Deck and View Area, Pool chairs and umbrellas. Site 1 - Poolside Campsite.
The hosts were very kind and I really appreciated the morning coffee (glad we packed our own milk as that was not provided). The host’s son is also a lovely pianist and it was sweet to hear music playing periodically. I had hoped that the pool would be heated - it was quite cold and there was a giant hose in it taking up half of the pool making swimming awkward. It was more of a cold plunge experience, so would be better for hot summer months. It was on the pricy side for the site ($120 per night plus $20 for each person per night plus $20 per additional car per night), and it didn’t feel quite worth the cost given that there weren’t many amenities- no potable water, need to pack out our own recycling and trash, there was only one bathroom/toilet for all campers to share, there was a makeshift table at our site but no benches/seating (bring camping chairs!), it was hike in, and there were a lot of mosquitoes (bring bug spray!). The beautiful redwood surroundings and convenience to Santa Cruz were the best features, and there was lots of space between sites, so it delightfully private. We ended up leaving early because the mosquitoes were too intense to eat dinner outside on our second night, and we couldn’t swim in the pool (too cold), so decided to just call it. The hosts were very warm and lovely, and they have a cute dog.

Overall the property was lovely and quiet and suited our needs partially. We found the rules to be overly enforced so as to feel controlling and diminish joy, and there was no where to cook, which was disappointing especially given the cost. A few more tables and a designated area to cook would go a long way. The pool was really lovely and the kids loved the trampolines. Ruth’s son Marshall was kind and accommodating and helpful.

Overall the experience was good, nice to have hot water in the shower and bathroom for washing hands. Just a few details that might still need to be ironed out by the host, parking was a bit crowded which is to be expected on a holiday weekend. And just one bathroom for maybe 10 plus people was not ideal. The site (site 4) was not as quite private as expected.

Site 3 - Redwood Paradise
Overall, it was a decent stay. A couple things I’d take note of: there’s one shower and one bathroom to share between all campers so there were a couple times we had to wait our turn. Additionally, they have one of those chain locks on the bathroom door so people can accidentally open it while you’re using the toilet and peer in. Staff was nice but very particular about some things. They reminded us a few times to keep the lights on auto in the bathroom instead of having it on. Also reminded us a few times to make our shower less than 10 mins and would walk out to remind us. Almost felt like they were breathing down our necks honestly and it made for a stressful instead of relaxing experience. The sites themselves don’t have any sort of hose, running water, picnic table etc. Also there’s absolutely no trash can in the whole property that campers can use, so make sure to bring a garbage bag with you. We brought a dog along, so we had to keep her used doggy bags in our car because the site had no trash cans for us. It’s also quite the walk from the car to most of the camp sites so if you’re bringing lots of stuff, prepare to take a couple of 5 min trips to and from the car. Overall, we wouldn’t go again. Place was beautiful and the staff was a family who were overall nice but they kept a very close eye which made the experience stressful.

Oak Tree Campsite
This was our first camping trip as a family of four and we had a nice night at this family-friendly camping spot in the beautiful redwoods! We appreciated the coffee in the morning, clean bathrooms, and potable water. Our toddler loved roaming around the property. There are other features (pool, slackline, trampoline etc.) that would be especially fun for older kids. We recommend bringing a wagon to transport your gear and want to flag that the pool is not gated so you definitely need to keep your eyes on little kids.

Super last minute trip but an unforgettable stay!! Ruth and her son were absolutely amazing hosts at an absolutely amazing property! Being nestled in the woods but having access to gorgeous Santa Cruz and surrounding areas was a dreamy getaway from life’s busy-ness. We felt so welcomed and cared for, from excellent communication before the trip started, getting to use their sauna, playing with their dog Snoopy, eating breakfast on the deck with fresh coffee, a super high-energy and fun tour of the property, to their overall kindness/openness to share details and features about their family home with strangers. Definitely will be back in the summer 🫶🏻

Amazing camping spot - Ruth and her family were super friendly and welcoming. Morning coffee on the deck amongst the gorgeous redwoods was something I’ll remember for a long time. Can’t recommend this Hipcamp site enough. Nearby Felton is a fantastic little mountain downtown with good food and vibes.

We booked this at the last minute and could not imagine a better experience! The land was magical, peaceful good energy and very well taken care of. Ruth and her son Marshall were very helpful and sweet hosts, serving good coffee in the mornings and giving great recommendations to local spots. We would definitely come back again when in the area! The pool looked inviting and fun, but it was not too hot when we were there.... next time!

I loved camping on Ruth’s land. It was quiet, peaceful, and undisturbed. Everything was as described, and Ruth and her family were incredible hosts. They were there if I needed them and helpful in orienting me to the place. I would recommend this place to others!

Pros: close to the Bay Area and can be booked last minute. Cons: the territory is very much run down, needs a lot of love and care. Hosts make you jump through some unnecessary hoops like to call them when you are on your way and when you get there, you have to connect to their wifi (which doesn't work bcs they give the wrong password) to call them again to get instructions on how to get to your camp. Some basic but properly done directional signs would do instead imho. There are some occasional signs but they leave you confused and whish they would put at least a tiny more effort to do it well. We also didn't get why they have such a strict 5pm check in policy, again given the fact that when we came in there was nobody there. Soap in the bathroom has more added water than the soap in it which also constantly leaves you wishing for more considering the price. Camp 5 is the furthest from the parking but not as private as we hoped it would be because it's right next to another property. So not worth carrying all your stuff for five minutes one way up and down the hills. Also other sites has more shade during the day.

The amenities including the pool, communal sink, and water closet are all great. The listing shows check in at 2pm but we got a text a day or two before saying check in was specifically 3-5pm only. Luckily, we could make it there in time. During check in the host’s son showed us all around and we signed the list of rules. Looking back at the pictures, we rented poolside 3 but this is not the site we were assigned. We had the two sites to the left of the pool and both had minimal flat space for tents (we had a six person and two person). Our stay became very stressful while everyone was out hiking except one friend in our group and her 15 month old. She *accidentally* left a soiled swim diaper near the pool as she was making lunch for her hungry toddler and this turned into a major conflict with the host even after our friend immediately picked up the diaper and apologized once the host confronted her. The situation was so contentious with the host that it resulted in our friend feeling disrespected and uncomfortable to stay the second night so they left early. We all felt like we had to walk on eggshells after this. All that being said, we have used hipcamp and gone camping with this group of friends every summer without issues, so won’t be returning to this site.

Site 4 - Redwood Paradise
This is a very beautiful and well kept place to stay. The owners are very nice and make sure you have an amazing experience. I can’t wait to visit again and enjoy the pool that is on the property and make more memories while I visit.

Site 2 - Redwood Paradise
Beautiful location for sure. Met an interesting mix of folks. Tidiness of the site an issue for some. Peruvian coffee was good. Would have been even better if delivered earlier in the morning (for us early risers).

Oak Tree Site - Mosquitos/not level

Oak Tree Campsite
This is a review of “Oak Tree Campsite” only - hosts were nice, campsite was challenging - the campsite is directly behind the main house, we didn’t use any of their facilities of on the property - We were a party of 2 families (two 4-6 person tents) - This campsite’s land is extremely narrow, has 3 tiers that are not completely flat and slope heavy. We were only able to use the top tier for our chairs and table. Our 6 person tent also only fit on the top tier which made the usable space very cramped. The other two tiers are too small and narrow to accommodate our 6 person REI Kingdom and even more slopped. - The campsite is a downhill walk from the parking lot. Bring a wagon if you are not primitive camping. Not very suitable for car campers. - The campsite is riddled with mosquitos. All day and night. We brought a screen house which we couldn’t use because of space. We used mosquito spray but it was not useful - it was incredibly hard to enjoy the campsite with the mosquito infestation. - The campsite has two makeshift tables, be careful some have exposed nails and screws Advice to hosts - be more upfront about the mosquito situation. I had asked a few times via chat through the app prior to my stay and no one addressed it. Level your campsite. Was only able to stay 1 night out of the 4 initially booked, very disappointing.

Rustic Room with Shared Bathroom
The hosts were very friendly and the room was cool and quiet. The location was perfect for our hikes and excursions.
