WILDERNESS SHORES!! ESCAPE TO THE WILD!!!
We loved camping here. It was a great place to just sit back and relax with plenty of opportunity for activities as well! The staff was helpful with any questions and we were in easy reach of a grocery store. We will definitely be visiting again!
I stayed at the Shoreline Tent Camping area at Wilderness Shores Ranch in Lakeland, FL for the weekend. The property itself is beautiful—right on the lake with stunning views and surrounded by nature. One of the best parts was the chance to interact with the friendly animals on the ranch, including long-horned cows, goats, and horses. The staff were also very welcoming and helpful throughout my stay.
However, there were a few downsides worth noting. Trains pass by very frequently at night—about once an hour—and they’re loud enough to wake you up. On top of that, there’s an active gun range nearby that was really noisy during the day, especially on the weekend. The campsites are quite close together, so there’s not much privacy. It also looked like the sites weren’t cleaned between campers—there was leftover firewood in the pit and some general debris around.
Overall, it’s a great place if you’re looking for a rustic, nature-connected experience and don’t mind the noise. Just go in knowing what to expect.
I was blown away by this operation. The staff were incredibly kind. The animals were so fun to feed. The camping spaces were clean, beautiful, and well managed. You could be in a more rustic, private area or choose a site close to the amenities/other people. It's kind of like a choose your own adventure. The bathrooms were top tier. And the nature was gorgeous. So many different birds in that area!! We felt very safe camping by the water and kayaking the lake. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
Tip: you don't actually ride the ATVs by the way - it is actually a UTV and you are given a tour of the property. We read it differently so just tip for you if you are under the impression you will be driving it as we were.
We enjoyed our stay at Wilderness Ranch! Most downsides were due to the area, not the campground.
Standard Camping Area:
Pros: Beautiful waterfront views at every site, clean bathrooms/showers, and fun access to farm animals. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful!
Cons: Sites are very close together and small. Gun range noise during the day made it hard to relax.
Primitive Camping (Back 40):
We didn’t know about this area until Day 2 but preferred it.
Pros: Spacious, on the water with fire rings and picnic tables. Even had porta potties throughout. Easy paddling access to a bird sanctuary—saw lots of wildlife, even gators!
Cons: Noise and light at night were intense—trains, traffic, cranes, and business lights made sleeping tough, even with earplugs.
Overall, beautiful spot at a reasonable price with great staff and access to animals and nature, but not ideal if you're seeking quiet or rest.
Loved playing with all the different animals on the property. Wished that the campsites were a little further apart though, but still had a great time.
This was our first camping experience as a family and we loved it here! The farm is lovely, waking up to the sun rising over the lake was amazing. Our boys loved exploring the trails on the island, searching for alligators along the shore, and hanging out with the goats. It was great family bonding time and we couldn’t ask for a better location. Would 100% camp here again!
Best camping trip yet! Just got back today and already planning our next trip back. This was our first Hipcamp experience and it exceeding all expectations. This camp was amazing. The staff were all so welcoming and helpful. The camp is incredibly clean and well cared for. The goats were by far our families favorite part of the farm. The side by side tour was a hit too. They also have a great camp store with some essentials and beef from the farm. Can’t wait to go back!
Just beautiful! Great spot, awesome community, friendly hosts! The staff were welcoming - I highly recommend trying out the kayaks and/or horseback riding (Hercules is awesome!). Everything from the check-in on was such a nice experience. The place is well kept and large. Everyone camping there seemed to be so nice too. I was alone this trip but it's a GREAT place to bring the family!
It was a wonderful experience. The place is exactly as described and even better. The bathrooms and showers with hot water are a plus. My daughter really enjoyed feeding the animals. We only stayed two nights, but there's plenty to do, so we'll be back. The front desk has a convenience store in case you forgot anything, or you can go into town; everything is 10 minutes away. We recommend it for camping with children.
We had a great time here. I read several reviews prior to visiting, some that mentioned lots of noise from the nearby shooting range and passing trains. While we heard the shooting range, it was not enough to bother us. And even with the two trains that passed in the middle of the night (and woke me up), my 10 year old boy was so tuckered out from all the island exploration, fishing, making new friends, playing on the swings in the open grass field, feeding and petting the free-roaming goats, walking our dog, trying to remember all the names of the amazing cows and sitting by the fire grilling and making s’more’s, that he slept right on through the night. Ms. Betty was great at check-in, telling us about the place and showing us where everything was at on the map. We will be returning to enjoy more nights.
An unbelievable surprise visit. A baseball tournament weekend without a real destination regarding where we were going to stay. The Hipcamp we had reserved fell through, and we were recommended to check out Wilderness Shores. So we did. My 6 year old son, my 8 year old daughter, and my 11 year old son all had a fantastic time, memories that will definitely last. The animal interactions were so fun.
AMAZING!!!! So cool!! Great for kids, quiet, almost nobody there. Watusi cattle visited our tent in the late morning. We were scared, we petted them, and they were so graceful never hitting our children or our cars with their giant horns. They are very gentle and very sweet.
Kids loved playing on the isthmus/islands and we were hiking and jogging at the big hills which is something you never see on flat land in Florida.
Being farm people it was exciting to see a skid steer and excavator working on land and near the campsite. Kids loved it as well.
Staff were really friendly and sweet, Farm dog was awesome. Dude working on the main building was cool, just like all of our rough construction worker friends when we renovate houses.
Garbage cans well-maintained at campsite, bathhouse looked clean from afar but we didn’t use it for our short stay. Goat pens looked clean and cute, goats looked healthy and needs were being met.
Cattle had plenty of access to shade, water, wind, socializing, exercising and grass/feed.
Campers were riding bikes all over the place on the miles long trails.
This will be our number one place to stay when we visit grandma in Orlando and go to Legoland again. Next time we will bring fishing poles, fishing nets, bikes and such.
This place is a 10 out of 10!
Such an incredible place to go camping with your kids. These folks have really hit it out of the park. We look forward to many more trips in the near future. Thank you so much for the incredible experience!
We loved our stay at Wilderness Shores. We boondocked on the property with our RV right by the water. The views were beautiful and everything was very peaceful. Everyone on site is very friendly. Our girls loved the baby dwarfs goats. We fed longhorns cows, billy goats and horses. There are some trails to go on to explore and fish. We bought a pack of their ground beef for one of the nights and made burgers, BEST burgers we’ve ever had! At the end of our stay we bought meat they sell from their longhorns to take home. It’s a great weekend getaway! Highly recommend! We'll definitely be coming back.
Had a wonderful time with our travel trailer. They have hiking, farm animals and lovely areas to sit and enjoy the views throughout the farm. They have electrical and water hookups with a dump station on site. Pet friendly.
We were booked for site 55 when we got there, their was people in 54 and 55 i went and talk to the people at the front desk they said those people were supposed to be in 52 but did nothing about it we heanded up setting up in site 56 but it's to congested there didn't feel like camping at all because we were so close to everyone had people walking through are tent site wile we were sleeping, on top of that there weir people with multiple cars and had to park there cars in other people camp sites cus theres only room for one car for each location, i didn't enjoy the experience at all
Very accommodating and the animals were a delight to see. Clean bathrooms with warm showers, sink and toilet. We used it as a home base for several adventures including a day at LegoLand. Would definitely stay here again.
I absolutely loved this campground and ranch! It was such a beautiful and unique experience. Paul and his staff are all very friendly and attentive. The tour and animal interactions are phenomenal. It was a very busy weekend, but because of the sheer size of the ranch, you never felt crowded. All the facilities were clean and well maintained. The other campers nearby were all very polite and respectful of the quiet times. It was great to see so many young kids walking on the trails, exploring the ranch and all it's views and beauty. The baby goats were adorable and fun to feed and play with. I'll definitely be coming back,it's a wonderful campground that feels like it's in another state, but is only an hour away.
Not what I expected for the cost. Started with our site given away to someone else. Lost access to water a few times. Has only one location for bathroom and shower which is really far away if your site is on the opposite end like mine. They were not centrally located. Sites are a little tight to your neighbor. Campsites had cow poop in them. Baby goats were cute. Not worth the money.
I stayed at this shoreline campsite with my two young daughters, and it was an unforgettable experience! As a single mom, safety and a peaceful atmosphere are my top priorities, and this place exceeded my expectations. The site was well-maintained, the surroundings were absolutely beautiful, and we felt completely safe the entire time. It was the perfect place to unplug, explore, and create special memories together. I'm so grateful for such a well-kept and welcoming spot for families who love the outdoors. We will definitely be back! ***TIP: do not go into the goat pin with food. Feed the goats outside their pin and enjoy them without food in hand while in their pin 😄
This was our first time camping here and we only stayed one night to give it a "trial run." The ATV tour was very fun but not for the faint of heart as there are one lane trails that get dicey in the side by side. Still fun if you're in to trail riding. Animals were lovely and so many new babies. People were great minus the group that stayed up making all kinds of noise all night but according to our neighbor who frequents this spot says that's not normal. I'm sure we'll be back.
