Fern Ridge Flats - Private Camping

2 sites · Tents9 acres · Aptos, CA
Nestled in a canopy of redwoods, less than 10 miles from the beach sits a private and cozy campground. Fern Ridge Flats combines the best of Santa Cruz county. Abundant trees and misty mornings await you at our property in Aptos. Equipped with electricity, water, and a picnic table for your convenience. There are trails on the land for you to explore, animals, and nature to dive into. *************** Smoking and the use of drugs are strictly prohibited. This is a safe and quiet neighborhood with many families including my own. Please do not request to book if you have the intention of partying or using illegal substances. If these rules are violated, local authorities will be called and you will be removed from the campsite. *************** The campsite is less than a 5 minute walk from the parking spot but is relatively steep. Although it is paved it is not recommended for anyone with mobility issues. *************** As an added precaution to protect the lush landscape, the firepit at the campsite utilizes clean burning propane. We chose a burner that closely replicates the size and heat of a wood to enhance our campers' experience.

The best camping near Ghost Tree guide

Overview

About

Named after the white and gnarled local cypress trees that occassionally resemble the long twisted limbs of the famous "Lady in Lace", Ghost Tree is an essential stop if you are near Monterey or Carmel in the Southern California area. She is said to be seen on the foggiest nights walking along the road or through the woods near the scenic overlook that is home to the ancient and weathered tree. Another big draw to this point is the big wave surfing that can occassionally be viewed in the wild waters below. Occassionally receiving swells of over 60 ft, the waters below the Ghost Tree can only be surfed if towed in by a jetski. The rough waters can be dangerous and should be left to only the most capable.

When to go

The best time to visit Ghost Tree is during the warmer months, from late spring to early fall, when the weather is mild and the wildlife is most active. Winter can bring harsher conditions, making some areas less accessible.

Know before you go

  • Check the weather forecast before your visit, as coastal conditions can change rapidly.
  • Remember that dogs are not allowed on the beach or in the natural preserve.
  • Be mindful of the $8 parking fee and have US currency or a check ready.
  • For your safety, always be cautious near the ocean due to strong rip currents and cold water temperatures.
  • Drone usage is prohibited to protect the park's wildlife and visitors.
