Weekend Trip to Muladhara Vector Camp Mount Shasta

I truly don’t have enough words to express how grateful I am for this experience. From the moment I arrived, I felt genuinely cared for and welcomed in a way that went far beyond what you’d expect from any host. He not only provided a beautiful space with an unreal view of Mt. Shasta, but he also created an experience I’ll never forget. If you’re looking for a place that is more than just a stay, somewhere that feels alive with magic, care, and connection to the land, this is it. This host is one of a kind. I left feeling renewed, inspired, and deeply grateful.

8 nights at Kosk Creek Campgrounds

Kosk Creek is an experience I’ve never had before; it was amazing. I went camping on a holiday weekend and even with around 14 other camping groups, my friend and our 2 dogs had a huge, private, beautiful riverfront camp spot. This property is the safest I’ve ever felt at a campground. The gate to the camping area remains locked 24/7 and you’re given the code to enter and exit whenever you wish. The tent camping is a dispersed open field with places to tuck away in the foliage or along the river, there’s no assigned spots so you just pick out wherever you like. We visited 3 surrounding bodies of water to paddleboard and they were all gorgeous. The bathrooms at camp are well kept porti-potties. We were able to get a camp spot that had a nice picnic table, fire ring and seasoned wood for a fire, not all spots have tables and fire rings. There are tall trees and foliage for shade. The camp host was the nicest guy and answered all of our questions. I think I counted 6 separate hot spring tubs. They’re all on the river so you can use a 5 gallon bucket to adjust the temperature to whatever you like. My only warning is that some locals enter the upper hot springs area from an off property trail and we encountered some possibly dog-aggressive dogs. If you don’t have dogs with you, I don’t think there’s anything to worry about. There’s a small general store a couple miles away in Big Bend that had everything we needed. There’s no cell service for at least 10 miles in any direction.

1 night at Juniper Valley Campsites

Literally.. Wow. Arguably the most gorgeous view I've ever had from a campground. Site two was nice, far from any main road but still in view of site one, the house and a neighbor (who is probably about a quarter mile away but the land is very flat so you can see far). The site itself is just a picnic table and a flat open area, the water spigot is about a two minute walk away. I would 100% recommend staying here just being a canopy or some sort of sun protection & a camp toilet. The night sky was a sight to behold and I couldn't keep my eyes off of Mount Shasta in the distance. For anyone who is confused on which driveway to enter in (I was), enter in the one that does not display the house numbers. It's a hundred yards (or so) down the road if you're coming from the north.

1 night at Trailer Lane Campground

Convenient stay on the way up north or the return south bound trips through the area. All the amenities. Got to stop by the camp store this time and it's very cute.... snacks, tshirts, souvenirs, and things you may have forgotten for your trip. It was a warm day coming through but it was about 5 degrees cooler at the camp and the shade was falling over it for the evening so made for a nice temp. Made it up to the tent are for the view of Shasta this time. It's fantastic to sit up there for the view (assuming you're not bothering tent campers). Lovely little tent camping area also with flush toilets and warm showers. Pretty sweet spaces Road noise is the only complaint which can't be changed. Was more noticeable this time through as we had the windows open on the van to get some cool air in.

Second trip up to Stoney Meadows and it lived up to the experience of the first trip. Scott and Nora are incredible hosts and the property is absolutely beautiful!

This was our third visit to Camp Stoney Meadows. We've never being disappointed. Nora and Scott are super hosts. We love our hikes around the ranch and a dip in the cool refreshing river. Our cabin and the facilities were clean and well maintained. We'll be back

We stayed in one if the Airstreams, and it was clean and comfortable. We always sleep with the windows open, and the noise of the highway and the trains was evident-but we pretended it was the ocean and slept well. Communication and staff were excellent. Thank you for a nice stay!

What a delightful view of Mount Shasta on private land. I have a boondocking trailer and all I needed was some sunlight and potable water and I was good. I purchased a half dozen eggs and they were delicious. Other campers were far away and I felt great there.

WOW. This place is so serene and peaceful. We met the owner Scott who is a gracious host who wants others to enjoy his beautiful property. The camping area is on Kosk Creek (more like a small river) which is amazing, but is even more amazing because of the hot springs along the creek. We would highly recommend this place and will be telling friends about it. We would go back here in a minute

Shasta View Campsites are part of a former 30,000 acre ranch that was split up into smaller parcels in the 1970's. It is comprised of 5 to 500 acre parcels. All these parcels are homesteads. There are no commercial or industrial areas on the Ranch. In 2005, I started looking for land in the Shasta area after falling in love with the Mountain and it's surrounding lakes. I have always known exactly what the land I would spend time on would look like. One day, in 2006, I was driving on the Hammond Ranch, again hoping I would find that place. I was driving my van, with my 2 kids and some of our friends, through a heavily wooded area. I made a left turn down a dusty dirt road and Eureka! I had found IT. I was at the top of a 60 acre meadow that had a full unobstructed view of Mt. Shasta, encircled by lenticular clouds. I told a friend of mine, who was at the time a realtor in the Shasta area, that I had found a piece of land that looks perfect to me. If, that is, it also had a creek on it. She did some searching around and found out that the land that is now Shasta View was in fact for sale. And, it had a creek on it. And it was comprised of some acreage in the meadow and some in the trees. This was everything I had wanted. I bought the land within the next 2 weeks. After camping on the land a few times, I started to understand where the best sites would be to build some structures. Because the meadow always has a certain amount of moisture to the ground, it is not suitable for building a structure. The good thing about that, is that nobody who owns land in that meadow will ever build there. We will only be looking at Mt. Shasta from that meadow. Never a building. The platform I built in the meadow offers on a chance to sleep under the stars. Billions of them. My property is only one of two that have old, large Cedar and Pine trees on it. It made perfect sense that I would be building a small house in those trees. While camping on this land, you will find exquisite beauty and solitude. Within 30 minutes, you will find Lake Siskiyou and Castle Lake for some of the finest swimming around. If you fish, the McCloud and the Sacramento rivers offer some of the best trout fishing in the state. There are two “Blue Ribbon” designated streams. The first is Upper Sacramento River. It starts as a trickle from the melting snows of Mt Shasta and by the time it reaches the area around the town of Dunsmuir which is just south of Shasta City, it is a true “Blue Ribbon” designated trout stream. The place to find all the ins and outs of fly fishing in this area is at the Ted Fay Fly Fishing shop in Dunsmuir. The second “Blue Ribbon” trout fishing is on the McCloud River. Historically some of the best trout fishing to be found. I have fished both these streams and always caught fish. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN BEDDING IF YOU'LL BE SLEEPING IN THE TREEHOUSE. And need I say anything about hiking on Mt. Shasta?

We can accommodate most RVs/trailers, if you are uncertain about the size just send me a message. There is a portapotty in the hay barn cleaned regularly and a water spigot for non-potable water uses or for a quick outdoor shower with a handheld spritzer. It is not enclosed so you will need to be discreet. Pets are allowed at campsites #2 and #3 only. These campsites are farthest from the horses and dogs. Please keep dogs on leash at all times. Our property offers a beautiful view of Mount Shasta. Nature lovers, extreme sports enthusiasts, family vacationers and retirees, can all enjoy the vast recreational opportunities this area has to offer. Lake Siskiyou is about 20 miles south and offers a wonderful 7-mile hiking trail around the entire lake. Bring your horses too. I have a couple of electric-fenced paddocks for visitors.

This is a drier climate between May and October, meaning some fire risk and potential smoke impacts in area forests, although the mountainside location generally offers clean fresh air with stunning sunsets and excellent stargazing. The land contains over a mile of scenic trails with rock features, gnarly old "bonsai" oak trees, native plants and wildflowers in a landscape undergoing restoration to healthy diverse fire resistant conditions. Wildlife abounds, mostly the friendly sort however visitors should be mindful to avoid unwelcome encounters, and any small children or pets kept under close watch. Your host can address questions or concerns. Count on fair to good cell service, wifi and power are centrally accessible too. Activity and development on site are minimized to enhance natural habitat and ambience. Guests are advised to minimize disturbance of other occupants and lifeforms. It's fine to have fun and make some intermittent noise but disruptive or damaging behavior will be curtailed. This extends to the neighborhood as well, especially on the road in/out where it's important to keep your speed (dust, noise etc) DOWN in the vicinity of houses. The property is not a park, playground, or big backyard, in fact probably not much like anyplace you've been...prepare for a novel experience! Come as a guest, not a customer, and find yourself at home in the wild. Youth visitors are welcome but must be supervised and receptive to guidelines. High mountain lakes: Take a short drive and you'll have access to multiple high mountain lakes that provide cool places to escape the summer heat, fish, swim, or take the canoes to on a hot summer day. Trinity Lake and Lake Siskiyou: Only a 45 minute drive from your campsite are the beautiful Trinity and Siskiyou Lakes! Bring your ski or fishing boats! Swimming: The Scott, Salmon and Trinity Rivers are all within an hour's drive and provide many beautiful and remote swimming holes. Hiking: The Pacific Crest Trail crosses Scott Mountain summit just 9 miles from the property and provides great access to countless trails, high mountain lakes and wilderness trailheads. Mountain Biking: Endless Forest Service roads make great bike riding trails for the whole family. Ask your host for more advanced trail options. Overview

Towering more than 14,000 feet, snow-capped and volcanic Mount Shasta dominates the landscape of Northern California. On its southwestern slopes, the town of Mount Shasta makes for an ideal base with amenities for visitors both spiritual and adventurous. Year-round outdoor recreation opportunities include hiking, mountaineering, caving, biking, waterfall chasing, boating, fishing, camping, and a wide range of winter sports. The area is surrounded by several state parks and national forests, including the state’s largest, and campers will find plenty of overnight options, from developed lakeside and riverside campgrounds to dispersed campsites in the mountains.

Where to go

Mount Shasta Area

Private campground options allow you to stay in a tent, RV, or cabin close to town, while developed forest service campgrounds at McBride Springs and Panther Meadows allow campers to stay on the slopes of Mount Shasta itself. Several public lakeside camping options can also be found nearby, including at Lake Shastina, Castle Lake, Gumboot Lake, and Toad Lake, while a private resort around Lake Siskiyou is full of amenities. Further south, Castle Crags State Park offers developed and environmental sites.

Shasta-Trinity and Klamath National Forests

Shasta-Trinity is the largest national forest in California and known for its many rivers and streams. Not surprisingly, many campground options can be found along a river or creek, including the McCloud River, Upper Sacramento River, Trinity River, and Eagle Creek. In Klamath National Forest, campers have options along the Klamath River, Scott River, and North Fork of the Salmon River, while equestrians can bunk down at Hidden Horse and Carter Meadows campgrounds near the Pacific Crest Trail.

Shasta Lake

Less than an hour away, California’s largest reservoir is a hotspot for all things water related. More than 30 public campgrounds can be found around the lake’s three main arms, including developed, group, boat-in, and dispersed shoreline campgrounds. Popular options include the Sacramento River Arm’s Lakeshore East Campground, the McCloud River Arm’s Bailey Cove Campground, and the Pit River Arm’s Jones Valley campgrounds. Private campgrounds and RV resorts offering more extensive amenities can also be found around the lake.

State Parks and Lassen National Forest

Southeast of Mount Shasta, McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park offers an epic waterfall and a campground, while PG&E runs several campgrounds around Lake Britton. Nearby Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park offers a unique boat-in campground on Big Lake. Several lakeside and riverside campgrounds can be found in the Hat Creek and Almanor ranger districts of Lassen National Forest, while Lassen Volcanic National Park offers a surreal landscape of volcanic and alpine terrain, pretty lakes, and eight campgrounds.

When to go

Summer is the best time for camping and hiking in the region. Popular campgrounds fill up early, especially over weekends and holidays. Most hiking trails are closed in the winter, but outdoor enthusiasts can go sledding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and even downhill skiing at the Mt. Shasta Ski Park. Waterfalls will be at their fullest in spring, while spring and summer are the best times for wildflowers.

Know before you go

Permits are required to enter the Mount Shasta Wilderness Area and to summit Mount Shasta.
You’ll need a vehicle to explore the region. Chains and 4WD are a good idea in the winter.
Fishing licenses are required for anglers aged 16 and older. Special regulations apply for some streams.
Be bear aware and store all scented items in a bear-proof container.
