Weekend Trip to Apple acres

My family had a wonderful time while visiting Apple Acres. It is close to town for shopping but far out enough that you can sit outside to enjoy nature without hearing the typical city noise. The site is well maintained, beautiful, peaceful, and quiet. For my family it has the perfect mix of rustic living with modern conveniences. The whole family including our furbabies felt welcome and would love to visit again.

We had a great time staying at Sleek acres. Lisa and Earl put a lot of work into their property to ensure campers enjoy their experience and it is clear they take pride in both the property and hosting campers. They truly went above and beyond to ensure we felt welcomed and had what we needed to be comfortable. The campsites are clean and flat and despite some recent rain the ground wasn’t muddy or flooded—perfect for setting up camp. The property is a working homestead, definitely get some eggs for breakfast and ask to feed the fish. This camping experience was the highlight of our trip.

Pretty cozy. Nice view on the pond. Bathroom clean. The owners provided firewood (thanks!!). Quite spacious and the fire pit is very nice. Had a late check in and were still super well welcomed. Just watch out for the tics.

Our stay at Sleek Acres was absolutely wonderful! This was our first time tent camping, and the experience couldn’t have been more memorable — all thanks to the amazing hosts. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed so kindly and warmly. They were incredibly understanding, helpful, and truly made us feel at home. The entire campsite is beautifully maintained — everything was clean, peaceful, and thoughtfully arranged. The scenery is stunning, and the overall atmosphere is so calm and relaxing. One of our favorite highlights was the sweet family of geese roaming the property — such a fun and charming surprise that made the stay even more special. We couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to tent camping. We’re already looking forward to coming back. Thank you, Sleek Acres, for such a memorable and heartwarming experience!

Everything about this site was fantastic. We were close enough to the water and bathrooms to utilize them when we wanted and also far enough away to where we felt that it was just us camping even tho other sites were occupied. Earl and Lisa went above and beyond and helped make our stay perfect. From watching the ducks and turtles swim around to catching bluegill every other cast, we had a blast here and are excited to come back

Under a thick forest canopy in a verdant hollow in southern Indiana, Kerry has crafted a bespoke camp that reflects a curiosity and investment in sustainable living with some modern comforts. The grounds are walkable featuring a variety of campsites. Fellow campers feel like woodland neighbors without being right next to each other. And Kerry, a welcoming host, ushered me from the road through the woods, answered questions and shared stories of the land. We talked about structural projects across the Happy Hollow and investigations into waterways & sinkholes inn the area. 11/10 would return.

2 nights at Apple acres

We loved camping at apple acres. We were the only campsite on the farm. it was very peaceful, and comfortable. The site had a lovely ambiance. The adarandack chairs, the hanging hammock chairs, the lighting... everything has the touch of a host who is passionate about the experience of their guests. My kids enjoyed the pond and paddle boat. I enjoyed the trails and the historical of the apple trees.

I felt really good about staying here, super friendly service and set the reservation up the day of arrival with no issues. We were just two adults camping, but this site would be perfect for families!

4 nights at Havendell Farm and Wayside

We have stayed several times and this stay did not disappoint. It's clean, quiet, we feel very safe and the owners are great. Dave's location is easy to get to and close enough for easy on and off the highway. The view is great wide open fields and woods to enjoy. The horses, farm animals and flowers are very easy to enjoy. We will go back each time we are in the area. We give them a 10++ and would recommend to anyone that is in the area and looking for a nice place to stay, one night or several nights. Thank you again for a nice stay!!!

The time I had there was a perfect separation from the world I needed. Secluded enough to be away from stress yet it close enough to a town to get supplies if forgotten. I will be returning to this site. Kerry was more than flexible in finding a spot that fit our needs and was available if we needed something or needed information. Also loved the visitor that stopped by an hour she can take a break. I believe his name is Maynard!

Honestly, I can not say enough positive things about Earl and Lisa. They are truely passionate about what they do and it was nothing short of amazing staying on there land. They really go above and beyond for there guests. Few of my favorite things were the clean and nearby outhouse equipped with a full shower, toilet and sink outside with hot and cold water, the lovely pond for fishing or in our case watching the ducks, the little private area on our site (#6), the farm fresh eggs which were amazing, and the trails we walked around which were close by the site we stayed at. The hosts were so friendly, respectful and just lovely people. Next time we come out that way we will defiantly be booking with them. I can't recommend them enough! Thank you for everything! They also havw the cutest doggy :)

1 night at Sleek Acres

Carl and Earl were great hosts, they escorted us to our campsite and made sure we had everything we needed including as much firewood as we needed. Our dog loved the beach and being able to swim which was an added bonus. I would recommend checking with the hosts to make sure things in pictures were provided. For example, we stayed at Site 2 and the pictures showed a campfire grate but when we arrived there wasn’t one. Luckily we were able to use the grate from a grill that was for guests to use. The bath house was extremely clean and has solar powered lights for night time. Overall a great location and find on HipCamp, we will definitely be back!

This was a beautiful piece of property, complete with chickens, a duck pod and hiking trails. I would totally recommend this to anybody! Very personable owners

Weekend Trip to Heritage Farm Stay Adventure

Heritage Farm’s is a beautiful, peaceful and relaxing camping destination. Beth and Tim are lovely hosts making every effort to ensure a great stay. The alpacas, goats, pigs, chickens, dogs and cats make the stay a delight. My 19 and 15 year old sons agreed it was a great location and both want to come back. We would recommend that if you tent camp that you bring a yard game or two because there is space to play. In short it was exactly what we’d hoped for.

Weekend Trip to Apple acres

We loved camping at Apple Acres! The reviews here saying that it was better than expected are absolutely correct. The carport was excellent for our little pop up (no need to bring our additional canopy) and we loved the hammock chairs and firepit. The sink area and porta-potty nearby were helpful (the flush toilets aren't too far, but it's nice to have a closer option at night). Improvements had been made even since some of the photos, including a firewood shelter. (NOTE: Don't sleep on the firewood across the road! You get a LOT for $10 and it's the best firewood we have used!) Starter wood and newspaper was even ready to go in the firepit before we got there. Jonathan and his family were very welcoming and helpful - even when our electric went out at almost Midnight and we had to wake him! Jonathan graciously came out and replaced the outlet entirely so that we could sleep warm (and so my husband could use his cpap!). Our kids enjoyed the dirt bike track even without bikes - especially our 5yo, who just loved playing in the dirt - and we liked the walking trails back in the forest, and the small pond and ducks. The only possible thing that could make this site better would be a shower, but we brought our own camp shower and it worked fine (on sunny days). We'll be back for sure!

Weekend Trip to Fallen Tree Campground

My 10-year old son and I loved tent camping on Whitney and Jered’s property. It’s obvious how much love and care has gone into their home and the surrounding land, and we feel really lucky that they shared it with us. Their welcome was warm, and all of the instructions and signage was really clear and helpful. This property is within the entrance to Chain O Lakes SP and was a peaceful, private alternative to the main campground. The tent camping site is really generous, and even includes a short path to a cozy bench that offers a great opportunity to stargaze on a clear night. The bathroom and clubhouse are clean and well appointed, including a small kitchen with all the necessities. We would love to visit again!

Sleek Acres is a total of 13 acres, which includes our homestead, our chicken yard and barn, a fishing pond, and over 8 secluded acres to the back of the property where guests can explore (including walking trails). There are hungry catfish and bass in the pond who are always happy to be fed (we provide the fish food). Fishing is allowed, but catch and release only (under 12"), please! A small group of ducks live on the pond and will happily greet you as you walk to the beach. Laurita's Casa Vieja

The farm is located 15 minutes west of Indiana Universities Memorial Stadium. The property is nice and private. The farm adjoins the 75 acre Stranger Hills Organic farm, the oldest organic farm in Indiana. Our 1899 Farmhouse is the only residence on the entire farm. There is a 3000 acre farm to our south. The area is quiet and very private. The campsites are in a grassy walnut grove by a small creek that runs along the eastern border of the property. We have a white deer creek cabin tent on a platform there and 3 or 4 nice level campsites to the north. There is a shaded RV site at the top of a small hill with 30 amp service. We can accommodate a large RV on packed gravel with 50 amp service. the farm is located 15 minutes east of McCormicks Creek State Park. There is a composting toilet and an on demand hot shower in a small building adjacent to the campsites. There is a YMCA about five minutes East of the property. \\\

Camp Ames

We established this homestead in 1981. The original 10 acres grew to 15 after acquiring our neighbors smaller lots. With one of those properties we used the well and septic and built camp sites to entertain our friends and family. We have opened this up to some outside travelers to attract interest in our local community. Travel trailers, Fifth wheels, Toy haulers, Class A RVs, Class B RVs, and Class C RVs allowed. All campers must be self contained with your own bathroom. Learn more about this land: Camp Ames is located on the scenic Mississinewa River 3.5 miles outside of Peru, Indiana. We have full service camp sites. The camp shack is appointed with a picnic table and TV to catch up on the latest news. Bald eagles are a huge attraction in this area. Acres Trust Nature Preserve is a short walk away. We have our own 4 acre wildflower meadow that attracts many butterflies and birds during the summer months. It's just a peaceful, quiet place to visit. Cell phone service is not great here but not totally absent if you stand in the right place. Wi-Fi is available. This is our private camp ground and not a for public use unless arrangements are made with us. We will assign your site before your arrival. A vacancy on this site does not mean we have availability as our friends and family may be visiting. When requesting a site please include a description of your camper, the number of people and how many amps your camper requires. This help us place you on a site if one is available. Suggested Local Attractions:The World's Greatest Amateur Circus: Peru, Indiana, is also known as the "Circus City". In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Peru was home to the Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus and others. Even the Ringling Brothers Circus wintered there for a while. For 10 days each July, Peru celebrates the Circus City Festival with rides, crafts, food, games, and more. The highlight, however, is the live amateur circus that has performances throughout the festival. A unique and authentic experience that echoes the early heyday of the circus, this is a fun event not to be missed. Performers are locals, some of whom are direct descendants of professional performers in the earlier shows. Miami County Museum: Located 3.6 miles from Camp Ames Cole Porter's custom 1955 Cadillac, circus carvings, a stagecoach, the World's Tallest Man's overalls, a fantastic collection of rifles, Clyde Beatty's lion tamer's outfit, lots of farm and pioneer items, Miami Indian relics. Mississinewa Resevoir: Located 3 miles from Camp Ames Mississinewa Lake is a seasonal resevoir designed for flood control. That said, depending on rainfall during the summer, many recreational activities are available. Swimming at the beach, boating, and fishing. A nice campground and hiking are also on site. Nickel Plate Trail: Located 2.9 miles from Camp Ames This asphalt trail is one of the best in the State to ride or walk on!!! It keeps getting better because the trail keeps getting extended with more pathway added. The volunteers do a superb job up keeping this 50 mile path. Make this a to do for a beautiful Fall ride once the leaves begin to change. You'll be immersed in intense colors and wonderful woodsy sights and smells. Seven Pillars: Located 0.8 miles from Camp Ames This breathtaking formation along the Mississinewa River was created over the centuries as wind and water eroded the limestone, carving rounded buttresses and alcoves into the north bluff of the river. Seven Pillars Nature Preserve - Acres Land Trust - Located 0.3 miles from Camp Ames! This preserve on the south side of the Mississinewa River is named after the landmark 25-foot limestone pillars, also owned by ACRES, which are located on the north side of the river. On top of the bluff grow red cedar, Juneberry and shadbush. In the preserve are beech, maple and other trees, as well as open meadow. The Miami Nation continues to gather at the pillars. The preserve is 148 acres of woods open to the public to walk the woods. There is 1.8 miles of trail. PRESERVE RULES: As a preserve visitor, you are responsible for keeping these habitats undisturbed. Follow these rules to allow the preserve’s plants, wildlife and natural formations to thrive here, in place, for generations: Open Dawn til Dusk, Foot Traffic Only, Dogs Allowed, Always On Leash,Take Nothing, Leave Nothing, Stay On The Trails McClure’s Orchard/Winery: Located 9.8 miles from Camp Ames A small, family-owned and operated apple farm nestled in the rolling hills of northern Indiana, located an hour from Indianapolis. Currently growing 125 varieties of apples, which throughout the season are available for u-pick or already picked. Beginning Labor Day Weekend, ride the tractor and trolley through the Orchard, for tours and apple picking. Toward the end of September through October, the trolley will stop in the pumpkin patch for u-pick. There is no parking or admission fee, and no charge for the ride through the Orchard. More than apples and pumpkins, there’s a playground area and petting zoo for the kids (and the kiddos at heart). During September and October, saddle up a horse, and take a horse ride on the weekends for $1. On most weekends, there’s live music; so, be sure to check the website to see who is playing and which day. McClure’s has a café serving delicious food, made fresh daily. The apple dumplings are amazing! The adults in the group can also sample or enjoy a glass of McClure’s award-winning wine and hard cider. In 2019 a down town location was opened on the Wabash River featuring Wine Tasting just 3.4 miles from Camp Ames. Preslie Meadow: Located at Camp Ames Preslie Meadow is a acre wildflower habitat. Established in 2018. Paths are provided to walk and enjoy the beauty. An array of wildflowers can be seen at different times in the spring and summer months. Birds, butterflies, bunnies and deer benefit from the meadow. Photographers and admirers walk the paths and drive by all season. Visitors are welcome and ask not to pick the flowers. Named after the daughter of JR and Marla Dennis of Kokomo. Preslie Lynn Dennis passed from injuries sustained in a car accident on June 22, 2018. She was just short of her 18th birthday and ready to leave for boot camp to serve our country in the United States Army having already served in the National Guard. This multi-talented young lady left us all heart broken. Preslie Meadow lets her memory and beauty live on.
